The translation of the marriage certificate can be done by anyone who is fluent in both the language that it is in and English. The person who translates it must sign an attestation statement that states the translation is accurate and that they are competent to translate.

My advice to play it safe so you don't get any RFE or a CHECKLIST is to follow EVERYTHING exactly of what is required for the MOROCCO (Casablanca) Consulate. It is great that the other two posters gave you advice. But I noticed that they are not from Morocco. So don't just take their word for it. Double check on the US DEPARTMENT OF STATE website and also on the US Consulate for Morocco-Casablanca. That is the location where all the VISA interviews take place. (Not Rabat)

And if I remembered correctly, I think you HAVE TO have it translated and certified by one of the approved interpreters on their list. And we ended up using one of the approved list interpreter in Rabat. There are many locations listed throughout Morocco so pick the one that is to your husband's town.

Good luck and if you have any more questions, feel free to ask. I would be more than happy to share what I know. My husband JUST GOT APPROVED YESTERDAY and it's been a good visa journey for us. The only hard thing is the waiting part. OK I'm working on the consulate review now. I'll try to put that up by the end of today.

The I-130 goes to the USCIS not the Department of State or the US consulate. What may be needed later is not what is needed at the USCIS.

OK...the mystery is solved...I did some research for you...So looking on the USCIS website, I copied and pasted the I-130 instructions down below...

Since this is a Moroccan marriage certificate, (in my humble opinion) it was easier and cheaper to just go with one of their approved translators in Morocco. As I think back now I did try to find translation service here in the USA and there are NOT many qualified certified translators with accreditation in Moroccan Arabic. In other words, you cannot just get your Moroccan friend to translate it for you on Google translate. You can always try. But we didn't.

As long as a person is fluent in both languages they can certify that the translation is correct. For the USCIS it does not need to be a paid "official" translator or notarized.
