my hubby and his family are Mexican... the majority of them speak English with Spanish being their second language.... they seem to all have adjusted very well into the American culture...

my hubby can barely speak or understand Spanish but he knows enough to get by when he needs to....

Jurisdictions, sure. Counterfeiting money is a federal crime. As is a bank robbery. But you better believe that local and state cops are not going to stand around with their thumbs up their arses and wait for the feds to respond if they come across either one of those.

 excellent points! bank robbery,,, just curious, what kind of crime is that?

i am thnking a lot of crime is comvered one way or another via local/state laws. cops may be authorized to enforce up to state laws. if, for some reason they suspect conterfeiting, they prolly call the feds. but if they bust someone say for spousal abuse and happento see a machine spitting out dollars at the guys house, i am sure there is no trouble throwing those charges over to the feds but still only arrested for spousal abuse.

i am sure(hope!) they have these protocols worked out. like you said, they aren't gonna sit there with their thumbs up their arses. but getting back to the immigration question, again, the cop would arrest an illegal alien say for dui, but not for being an illegal alien.

i've read of cities prohibiting their officers from doing "immigration" policing. so, i am curious how that would work. i suspect those kinds of things are really a jurisdiction thing.

Arrest somebody on suspicion of being an illegal alien?

How would that suspicion be aroused?

Color of skin?

Way of dressing?

What if the person with the "different" color of skin and the "different" way of dressing is a bona fide US citizen?

Then what?

"Oops, sorry, US citizen, but you did look suspicious to me. Now toddle off and keep smiling. Your being harassed was for the greater good of the community."

how would the cop know the 'suspect' is an illegal alien? because he looks funny or talks with an accent? or because he looks mexican, which would give a 'basis' since 1000% of the illegals are from Mexico?
