Just a reminder, if the mistake on the green card is the fault of the USCIS, which it is in this case, then send the I-90 and the green card free of charge. Use the flat rate priority envelope it was send in (or get a new one if you destroyed that one to get to the green card.) I kept mine for such a purpose and they intend it as such. You do not have to pay any fees to fix a USCIS mistake.

Thanks, we will contact USCIS and make sure we inform them of their mistake. I will call them on Monday and then follow their instructions as to how to correct it. Thanks again for your input.

No problem! The last thing you want is for things to get messed up because they messed up. For instance if you don't file ROC and suddenly are facing deportation! YIKES!

ya, I walked bigdog through this card problem also - he had a lot of fun with useless infopass appointments and talking on the phone with the USCIS not--so--helpful call center. The fix for this is easy - submit an I-90 with a letter of explanation, and stick it all in the mail.

The cool bits for a CR-1 visa holder - the stamp in the passport endorses the visa to be utilized as a temporary, 1 year green card, for a year past the POE date - so this lovely couple has up to a year to get this fixed.

i willl just follow all the instructions and just do what needs to be done. one question i have been here since the 1st of july and no SSN how do i go about that thanks?

Do an advanced search with SSN and use "Darnell" as the author. You'll find his post on how to get an SSN. You likely need to go to the SSA office and get one from them. (Advanced search is in the top right corner)

Thank you Darnell for your professional and well mannered advise, its appears you have courtesy and manners and i really appreciate. The essence of education is not just to get work, but it teaches us how to be civil and relate with our fellow human being. I really appreciate your professionalism and am working towards resolving the issue.

Since it has been over three weeks since you arrived, please go into the nearest SS office and fill out the form, take your passport with you and they will issue you a SS within two weeks. You should get your card in the mail within two weeks. We had the same issue and this is what we did. Thanks.
