I like trees with ornaments that don't match anything else on the tree! The more colorful the better. And I'm lucky in that I've hardly ever had to BUY ornaments. I teach preschool, and one of the most popular items to give preschool teachers is ornaments. (right behind candles and/or lotion) I've got Waterford crystal, two solid gold ornaments, Wedgewood, etc. They are all beautiful, but the most priceless ones are the handmade ones (bakeable clay) that kids (mine or someone else's) have made.

We have a Garden Ridge store in our area that carries inexpensive stuff for home and garden so I get anything that I buy for decoration from there. We don't put up a tree because it is more trouble than it is worth with the cats plus we tend to spend the actual holiday with one family or another. When we used to decorate though, one of the quickest and easiest 'home made' decorations were gingerbread men and other shapes like stars, trees and wreaths. They are really easy to do with inexpensive cookie cutters and they do look pretty decorated with icing and on the tree. A cute story about Christmas tree deocrations . . . at one of the Museums I used to work in we did an old fashioned Christmas tree with Gingerbread men decorations. We noticed after one of the school trips that all of the lower gingerbread men were missing their arms and legs at just the right height for 7 year old hands:-).

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

I like color coordinated myself, so back in Brazil I have separate boxes for each. So one year I feel like purple I can find my transparent/glitter and purple ornaments, then the next year I want pink, etc. Each year mom and I would got for a different color and once in a while we'd go nuts and put everything we had on the tree. You'd barely see the green then. :P

Luis likes not only color coordinated but ornament coordinated, so if I even hint into getting snowlflakes he goes "Nooooo, let's use balls only!". It's ok 'cus this is the first time he ever puts up a tree together since his parents never do it 'cus they spend Christmas at the grandparents's houses so with time I'll convince him trees look nice with different things on them. :)

One thing I can't do here that I loved doing back in Brazil is my Santa stuck in the fireplace. I lived in the mountains so I had a big fireplace in the living room next to where I put up my tree and every year we'd make Santa's legs with two broom sticks, foam, cover all up with red satin forming legs in Santa's pants and then put black boots (my brother's old army boots that worked pretty well for santa's boots) on the bottom and stick into the fireplace. So it looked like he was standing inside it either climbing up, or down, or just stuck like we liked to call it! I loved our Santa in the fireplace! And it was just fine to do it 'cus Christmas is actually during summer so we wouldn't use our fireplace anyway.

Beijos!!

Oooo...I love looking at everybody's trees....'tis fun!

If anybody is looking for old-world-ish blown glass christmas ornaments, try TJ Maxx. They have such pretty ones in boxed sets - all the sets I saw were less than 10 bucks.

I was in our Big Lots today and they have boatloads of cute old-world style blown glass ornaments for $1 each. They were adorable!

I got some really cute (but little) blown-glass ornaments at Dollar tree last night, along with some pinecone ornaments, and some cherries. I have a few strings of wooden cherries we put on, so I got a few little bunches of them to put on too. Can't beat a buck! :P Then, at Walmart, I had to pick up a little snowman one for 97 cents..it was SO cute...there were a few others, but I limited myself because we really don't *need* too many more...but they're all just so pretty/cute! I love snowmen though...I have quite a few, so I had to get that one! :P M.

OOOOO....I just looooooove Big Lots!!!!!! Now that I've gotten Joel turned on to finding bargains, he loves it too! I like buying at least one or two new thing each year, eventually we'll have enough for those three trees too Becca. ;)

Yep! We found some tiny ornaments at our local Dollar Tree last week too. Also got Anna's stocking stuffers there as well. Plus the kittie's stocking stuffer (yes, our cat has a stocking too! :D ). Dollar Tree and Dollar General are awesome!

Maybe we should all post pics of our Christmas trees...if ya wanna :)

Put up the tree today, will show pics once I get them. Those boxed sets from Walmart were great 'cus we had leftovers, I made it pretty neat and not too much mixed in but it looks classical and nice enough for such a cheap plastic tree. I'm pretty happy with the result. :)
