If the translator doesnt want to place a stamp on the front of the document. I suggest a method used extensively. That is to create a "book" of the translated document. A face page with the required statement of competency, signed by the translator, with the stamp. This page is followed by the english translation, then the foreign document. All the pages are the bound in a "book", packet actually, with a sheet of blue paper stapled to the front edge and folded around the back of the packet. The face page is left visible, the blue sheet just covers half an inch of the front and covers the back. It is securely fastened. In the legal biz, we called that "bluebacking. This should be done for each document to be translated. Thats the fancy way to do it. It will be recognized immediately by any USA authority.

In China, its called a "white book"

Stay away from Translation Software. It is ####### translation.

If your concerned, goto to http://www.atanet.org

At that site, you will find ATA Certified translators.

Just to give you an ideal of the certification process. Think of the BAR Exam or Medical Exam. Yes, it is that difficult.

Please keep in mind that some dates are only known after receipt of another document.
For example, the USPS Form 3811. The stamped receiving date was not know until the original Form 3811 was received on 07/13/2013 1:30 p/m CST.

How did you translate your hubby's birth certificate? We have to do the same thing and are not totally sure how we should do it. I was thinking of just putting everything on a word document. What are your thoughts/suggestions?

You are posting in and have awakened a 6 year old thread.

To answer your question, yes, you can just use a word doc and layout your translation as close to the layout of the original document as you can get. Be sure to include the certification of translation on the translated document.

  • Please submit certified translations for all foreign language documents. The translator must certify that s/he is competent to translate and that the translation is accurate.

    The certification format should include the certifier's name, signature, address, and date of certification. A suggested format is:

    Certification by Translator

    I [typed name], certify that I am fluent (conversant) in the English and ________ languages, and that the above/attached document is an accurate translation of the document attached entitled ______________________________.
