My current status in US : h1b visa

My wife's status : permanent resident

I130 applied : June 2012

I130 approved : June 2013

Applied at Vermont service center.

Priority date is current right now. What confused the hell out of me is : how do I get a visa number? Do I've to wait to get it or can I go ahead and apply I485 at this point.

It's confusing because on USCIS site one place it says once priority date becomes available you can apply for I485 if you're in US and at another place on USCIS it says you can apply for I485 once visa number is available.

You can aplly I-485 right away...!

You do not have to wait for any visa number...!

You can update your timeline ....!!

10/07/2013: I -130 approved.

10/11/2013: I-765 and I-131 got approved.

11/5/2013: Green card approved

11/5/2013: I -485 status shows card production.

11/5/2013: Status moved back to decision.

11/7/2013: I-485 status shows card production.

11/14/2013: Received green card for 10 years

Hi,

your priority date isn't current yet. the visa bulletin that you mention is for the month of August. you can prepare the AOS packet but you cannot send it until next month.

check July's visa bulletin, the month that they are currently working on, and you'll see that the priority date for the month of July isn't current

Thanks , I've updated my timeline.

Confirming what Aleful said. Do NOT send in the packet before Aug 1. If it gets there too soon, it could possibly cause a major delay for you. If your PD is current in the July VB, you can send it now, otherwise, make sure it gets there Aug 1 or later. I'm in the same boat. I hope they move teh approvals of i-485's quickly.

Speak of the devil, I just got a text from USCIS saying that my case status has been updated. Unfortunately I don't see a change there yet. I'll keep on checking like a mad man for the next hour until I see the update. :)

As to your questions

1: Yes. I am applying for both. We want to travel ASAP and one never knows when there will be a family emergency.

2: A copy of my i-797. However, with the updated status, I might have an approved i-130 by then. :) Crossing my fingers.

Can you please let me know what all documents are needed in I-485 Packet? Can you please let me know the checklist.
