Transfer case from Cairo embassy

Hello everyone,

Happy Ramadan to all of you celebrating it :)

As you are all aware, Egypt is undergoing an extremely tough time now with so much instability. The embassy has been closed for almost two weeks now and no one knows when it will reopen. I also heard that a lot of diplomats from the embassy are being sent back home. I called DOS today to see if they are aware of the situation and if they can do anything about it. They told yes they are aware and they are also aware that the embassy does not have a set time of when it might open. They told me it's possible that I can transfer my case to another embassy if I wanted. I asked about the process they said I would first need to contact the embassy first in another country and explain the current situation and see if they are willing to accept my case. If they say yes, then they will ask Cairo embassy to transfer the case to them.

Now my question is, any recommendations or advice on this issue? Does anyone have any experience or background on transferring a case? Is it more complicated to do so? Any embassies in particular I should avoid? Any embassies your recommend to take my case? Any help at all would be much appreciated :) Thanks again everyone!!!

PS: My fiance already had his interview in May and he is now in Administrative processing.

I say - if the casefile was still at NVC then it makes sense to get it transferred.

OTOH, for your case, already having an interview, and already being at the Consulate's IV Unit - you're going to have a huge issue of a human getting the casefile and getting it out of the IV Unit.

So, the part of your question for 'where to send it' makes no sense to me, as it's highly unlikely there are any humans at the IV Unit to transfer it OUT.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

I'm in that situation, my case is heading toward the NVC now and I would jump at an opportunity to have our case moved to another embassy... does anybody have experience doing that? I wonder if it would have to be somewhere in the MENA or if it could be moved farther away.. just thinking about trying to get to the least-backlogged most-organized embassy possible. :P Hmmm...

We met when Heather travelled to Egypt to be an au pair!

keep calling NVC each day and talking with a supervisor.

you want to try to rehome the casefile somewhere.

a supervisor can help you.

Is your AP being done at the embassy or have they transferred it to DOS? You should ask. My husband's was transferred to DOS after a few weeks at the embassy then transferred back to Cairo after about a month and a half. If they transferred it to DOS he's in name checks.

The embassy being closed to the public should have no bearing on AP. There are still people working there, they just aren't conducting interviews and aren't open to the public. Once the visa is issued, they will send it via courier anyways.

Just got an email reply from the embassy today stating that the admin processing is still being worked on and has nothing to do with the embassy closure. Not sure what this could mean.

Hello,

Ramadan Kareem

My case is also in AP at the embassy in Cairo. I spoke yesterday with the DOS and they told me that my case would NEVER come to Washington DC. SO does that mean name checks for us have already been completed.

If they are working than why they dont check email regularly?? Who else is getting the email box is full?

I am worried about the situation in Cairo as well making alot of backlog for the officers. But if it is as you say that it could be a small blessing because the only work they have to do is work they already have and no interviews etc, which could speed things up a little.

I don't know about that. I don't know if everyone gets name checks or not. I know that my husband was in name checks as well as several others who have gone through Cairo. That's why I asked the OP if their case had been transferred or not.

Obviously someone is answering emails otherwise the OP wouldn't have gotten a response saying that AP was still being worked on.

OP = forum/message board abbreviation for "Original Post" or "Original Poster" - it can mean either the topic of the thread, or the person who posted it.
