I have a traffic ticket for 85$ - and I am going to the court house some time this week to obtain information to fill out N400 form. While I am there, what other documents I should ask for? I am going to ask for the receipt and the citation. Anything else if someone could tell me so that I could take them to the interview when time comes without having to go to the court house multiple trips?

If you ask for a certified copy of your "docket" record, that should include a complete record of everything relating to your case, including any fines or other sentences and the ultimate resolutions thereof.

Thank you. I went there today and asked for that docket, they said I don't have any court documents, just a plain record of the case and balance due 0 - and it says the case is closed! So she printed that out for me and certified it. $2 total - can't complain. Let's hope I don't get any more tickets!!!

My husband got a letter from the courthouse, like you, that stated his two traffic tickets were cleared and no payment was due. We also had copies of traffic school classes that my husband had taken, and receipts for payments. He took all these documents to his interview, and the IO didn't even look at a single thing. She just asked my husband if he had been arrested, and when my husband said "no", she moved on.

Good luck to you.

A docket is actually a list of documents that were filed. I would have asked for a case/matter transcript (which is what you got so yay!).

That should be fine smile.png

@Hedi , did your husband write yes or no when asked if he was ever arrested , cited etc. ?

He checked "yes" to the question of "have you ever bee arrested, cited etc.?". At his interview, the IO asked if he had been arrested and he responded "no". My husband told the IO he had two traffic tickets and he had all the paperwork, but the IO said she didn't need to see anything, and moved on.

I could be wrong but I think i had read somewhere the traffic citation that resulted in fine of less than $500 is not required to be included.

You are right, it refers to not including the documents with your N400 such as court docs, etc.; however, all you need to do is to disclose it but don't send any support documents, just take them to the interview.

Though they say not to send in any paperwork if traffic offense was <$500, once you mark "yes " they seem send that yellow letter requesting more info as to why you marked off " yes". So wouldn't it be easier and quicker to just send that info ( receipts for traffic tickets etc) even if they were less than $500. I am just curious. I am applying under the 5 yr rule and had two traffic tickets both under $500.

My husband's two tickets were under $500 too (although he was applying under the 3 year rule), and he himself really didn't even want to disclose those tickets, but I insisted that he check "yes". We did get the yellow letter and I think that is why the IO asked my husband if he had ever been arrested, but like I said, when my husband said "no", she didn't want to see any documentation. My husband's interview took all of 15 minutes, from start to finish.
