Does moving to the USA on A Spousal Visa allow you more luggage?

Hey guys,

I was told (I think this is wrong, but I want to double check) that if I call the airlines ahead of time instead of two free bags of luggage when my husband does move to the USA he would be allowed to take three free bags. Providing we can prove he is moving to the USA.

Is there any truth to this? If not how did you move your items over to the USA?

Can’t hurt to try but I’ve never heard of such a thing and I’ve been on VJ for a while.

It would be helpful if we knew where he was from so that we could answer you more effectively.

No, but you might want to look into "Economy Comfort/Plus" tickets (the name depends on the airline), sometimes, they allow more pieces of luggage and the difference in price might be less than having to ship your personal items another way (or extra luggage $ on the plane). Business and First usually get a bigger luggage allowance too, but $$$

I can't speak for every airline in the world, but I can speak for the ones I have worked for which are all European airlines that they offer no such thing. Same goes for the airline I currently work for. Another member mentioned about looking into a higher class of service like economy plus, which allows more free luggage.

I would still call the airline you are interested in travelling with and ask, you never know.

Thanks guys! I think we (I'm moving back too) are just going to sell/donate as much as we can. It doesnt make sense to bring a TV and other electronics when you need an expensive adaptor and the cost to bring back to the USA.

I did a google search and someone recommended finding a shipping company that regularly exports to the US.

They may ship some of your stuff for cheaper than a courier shipper but it would probably take weeks.

In case you can’t get your lives down to a couple of suitcases each.

Thanks hikergirl! Will look into that. I know it's just 'stuff' but it's still hard to get it down to two suitcases.
