I believe this is country specific, but Vietnam requires a timeline of our relationship.

I have never seen anywhere that a timeline is required for Vietnam. However, at the interview stage, it is recommended that you bring an outline. Of course it would not hurt to send an outline with your I-130. For Vietnam it is best to front load your case file. You do not need your wife's passport as long as you have her birth certificate. However, I did send a copy of my wife's birth certificate and copy of her passport....also sent both of mine as well.

Thanks all! A couple more questions. Do I need a copy of her passport and do I need to submit a timeline along with the I-130?

A timeline submittal is useful and important for folk getting interviewed in HoChiMin, so at some point, you should write one.

When to submit it? That's on you, and you have two chances to submit it so that the Vice Consul will read it prior to interview day:

1. with the I-130 when submitting to USCIS or

2. with the DS-230 when submitting to NVC.

IMO (and others) - having the timeline in front of the Vice Consul prior to interview day is a must for your US Embassy IV Unit. Other countries (like England or Canada) don't have the same local scrutiny , so bear that in mind when you read advice from folk not chasing after a visa in Vietnam.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

fwiw - Vietnam folk call it a timeline, and China folk call it an evolution of relationship letter.

Show your travel itinerary that you went there and passport stamp that you entered and left her country. Ticket stubs from flight and 3 affidavits from close family and friends acknowledging your relationship.

Thanks guys, I'll dig those stuff up. Is the affidavits necessary? Anyone else do them?

affadavits are not necessary.

Sure, reading the instructions with the I-130 is optional, but many folk like to read.

1. Documentation showing joint ownership or property; or

2. A lease showing joint tenancy of a common residence; or

3. Documentation showing co-mingling of financialresources; or

4. Birth certificate(s) of child(ren) born to you, thepetitioner, and your spouse together; or

5. Affidavits sworn to or affirmed by third parties havingpersonal knowledge of the bona fides of the maritalrelationship (Each affidavit must contain the full nameand address, date and place of birth of the person makingthe affidavit, his or her relationship to the petitioner ofbeneficiary, if any, and complete information and detailsexplaining how the person acquired his or herknowledge of your marriage); or

6. Any other relevant documentation to establish that thereis an ongoing marital union.

Hey, thanks for the response all. I was able to dig up plane tickets, boarding passes, credit card receipts, hotel receipts, jewelry receipts with our names on it. The only ones that I don't have and I doubt my wife has them too, are the receipts for the engagement and wedding party as her family planned it. And i know where she lives (rural Vietnam) most of these planners are friends and prices are verbal agreements :). Hopefully, this won't affect the application.

Another question :) For these evidence, do you arranged them in reverse chronological order?

Thanks again!

on all those receipts - make photocopies.

submit the photocopies.

hint - leave a bit of space inbetween each thing on the copier,

then you can write what it is on the photocopy in that space.

That's a good point Darnell. It is good to write a description of what it is next to it/under it. That is also a good thing to do for photos. Write who is in the photos. You, your wife, family member's such as parents etc, locations, occassion etc....

Thanks guys! I'm helping my wife in Vietnam fill out the G-325A form and I have a couple questions.

1. For question "Applicants residence last five years. List present address first." She has maintained her birth address as her permanent address since she was born, but she also currently maintains a temporary address as well for the past 5 years where she goes to school, so would I put 'Present' on the 'to' column for both address?

2. For question "Applicant's last address outside the United States of more than 1 year." Which address would I list for my wife? Her permanent or temporary or both?

Thanks!
