My husband had his medical exam completed overseas before he received his K-1 visa. At the time, the doctor did not give him a copy of the medical results saying "you will be fine without it." Then, I told him to try to get a copy of the forms at the POE (New York), and the officer told him the same thing. Honestly, I did not even know if the officer would be authorized to open the envelope and make a copy--I was just hoping for the best.

Now that we are trying to adjust his status, I see that most people have sent in some form of proof that the medical was completed overseas. I have read the instructions for both I-485 and the I-693, but do not know what to do.

I also read from the pinned FAQs on this forum the following: "If you received a copy of the Vaccination Documentation Worksheet (Form DS-3025) from your Panel Physician, you may include a copy of that form in your AOS submission in place of Form I-693."

Does that mean that if he didn't receive a copy we don't need to send anything in? The doctor in Santiago no longer has any records on file for him. We called USCIS, who told us to call the Department of State, but they are not answering the phone.

What can we do? (Obviously, I want to avoid having him re-do the medical exam if possible to save money).

Hi there,

Does he have a copy of his vaccination records? If so he may be able to go to a Civil Surgeon and get his vaccination records transcribed to a I-693. I would look up a Civil Surgeon for your area, call them and see what they suggest. Go to www,uscis.gov and search Civil Surgeon and then you put in your zip code and it will show Civil Surgeons in your area. Blessings on your journey.

If you are absolutely sure he had all the required vaccinations at the time of his K-1 and they were marked off on a properly filled out DS-3025, then you could just include a statement in your cover letter that all his vaccinations were completed and the documentation is already included in his file with the rest of his medical papers. He may or may not get an RFE anyway, but you can always try it that way to see if he could get by without seeing a civil surgeon and deal with getting the I-693 if you should so happen to get an RFE.

If you are unsure as to whether or not all the vaccinations were complete, or if the DS-3025 was completed properly or at all, then you need to see a civil surgeon to have page 1 and the vaccinations page filled out. A new medical is not needed bu you will need to call around to find a civil surgeon that will not insist on a new medical anyway.
