Is there a need for the parental advice to be notarized by an attorney?

The parental advice has been inscribed by the local civil registrar and when I went to an attorney to have it notarized, they asked me on which part are they signing given that the registrar has signed the advice. They said that they would have to remove the civil registrar's name if I want it notarized.

They said that they would have to remove the civil registrar's name if I want it notarized.

According to USEM website, it states that documentation regarding parental consent or advice is to be presented. It does not say notarization is required.

If I were you, I would keep the document you have (with the local civil registrar's name) and not have it notarized.

I hope this helps some. Good luck with your journey! good.gif

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

Okay this is what I dont get... this, along with the CFO seminar are things I have not heard about until recently. (they both aren't listed on visajourney's guide)

What exactly is this "parental advise" junk and is it required by all petitioners of beneficiaries in the Philippines, or only certain age? Who will check it? How much does it cost/what to do to obtain it?

Will its very obvious why you hadn't heard of CFO before, you were not stopping by the Philippines forum, even though some had suggested you do so. You will not read of CFO in the K-1 GUIDES or process forums as CFO is not part of the K-1 process... its a Philippine requirement that is not specific to the K-1 BTW.

It has also been suggested that you click the link in my signature for the complete K-1 process in Manila, in there it talks of CFO and the parental advice/consent requirements that sometimes CFO ask for, both are age specific.

So as I said before... click and read.

Hank,

I actually have done a bunch of "clicking and reading" -- as a matter of fact I clicked on the the link below your sig several days ago but as you just updated it AUGUST 2, I just wasted my time going to your page because there was absolutely nothing useful or this so-called NOA2 to VISA. It brought me to page 4, then I searched page 3, then page 2, then page 1 and found no such NOA2-Visa guideline. Only now I saw it, but then when you try to print the format is all messed up and prints alllllllll the way to the left and cuts off many words too! ranting33va.gif SO yeah, you should probably fix that.

Also, you should note that just because some people suggest something doesn't mean one will jump to doing it immediately. People are busy (maybe YOU aren't), especially me, so if I have a question about something I have all the right to post it, regardless of how many times you say people have suggested me to do so.

Sorry you had issue with a link not working correctly. I see that the link for NVC is was messed up but that is only for contact info which is already listed on my page anyway.

The links for the embassy is correct as are the links for SLEC and CFO working correctly.

I am not sure what you are trying to print.

If you find my list annoying and waste of time then for sure don't use it.

I will make note

What exactly is this "parental advise" junk

= it is a piece of paper that you and your parent/s need to sign if your age is between 21 and 25y.o. giving their favorable advice to you and you seeking an advice to your parents upon the intended marriage.

and is it required by all petitioners of beneficiaries in the Philippines, or only certain age?

= beneficiary (Filipino citizen) only; if applicable

The rule on parental advice is found under Article 15 of the Family Code. It states that any contracting party between the age of twenty-one and twenty-five shall be obliged to ask their parents or guardian for advice upon the intended marriage. If they do not obtain such advice, or if it be unfavorable, the marriage license shall not be issued till after three months following the completion of the publication of the application thereof.

Who will check it?

= CFO "might" ask for it. really depends....

How much does it cost/

= depends if you want it to be notarized (mine was P150/page)

= depends if you have your own printer to print the form which is available online; so you won't pay any at internet cafe's

= depends if you get it at civil registrars office and how much they will charge you

= depends if you will have an attorney to make it for you

= depends if you just want it to be handwritten and not having it notarized then it won't cost you any

what to do to obtain it?

= depends... you can copy mine which is available here http://philippinefiancevisa.weebly.com/affidavits.html and you have the option to have it notarized, printed or handwritten...

= or you search for another one online

= or if you want to get it in a local civil registrar's office

= or if you want an attorney to make it for you

Hi RobbandAnn. I just want to clear things, I am 23 so I'll be having my parental consent right? So is it okay to have it handwritten so it doesnt need to be notarized? coz if handwritten parental consent was allowed. i will just choose that so i wont have to pay about the notarization.

You should have the form notarized.

Here are some sample forms:

** From the Family Code of the Philippines: it's 21-25 years old for advice and 18-21 years old for consent. (Some are posted on VJ that they were not asked for this, yet others have been asked, so be prepared) Bring the ID of the parents, plus copies, postal ID should be adequate.

Examples (from Quezon City):

Advice of Parents: http://www.quezoncity.gov.ph/images/stories/downloadables/forms/parentadvice.pdf

Consent to Marry: http://www.quezoncity.gov.ph/images/stories/downloadables/forms/consenttomarriage.pdf
