Always good to carry one back up document separate from your passport.

The passport will be sufficient.

Rule of thumb: always photocopy the ID portion of the passport (with the photo, personal information, etc.) and have a copy filed with a loved one, and possibly another photocopy of it in your bag in case you lose your passport, it's stolen, or any number of other calamities occur. Replacement of a passport can be tricky and time-consuming, but if you have that data on hand, the consulate can process things much, much faster.
