You do NOT have to report traffic infractions which result in a fine of less than $500 and points, unless the infraction was alcohol or drug related.

http://www.uscis.gov/files/article/chapter3.pdf

From the webpage PDF:

"Note that unless a traffic incident was

alcohol or drug related, you do not need to submit documentation for traffic fines and

incidents that did not involve an actual arrest if the only penalty was a fine less than

$500 and/or points on your driver’s license."

I understand that One thing is YOU DON'T HAVE TO SUBMIT DOCUMENTATION, and other thing is the REPORTING on the N-400.

I'm 100% sure you should report the traffic tickets. Actually I made the mistake of not reporting them and then I found out I should have to.

I don't know if I missed anything but I don't remember seeing this when I filed N400. I did get a ticket for Failing to Stop at a Stop Sign and I took "Defensive Driving" class for that and I believe that took care of it. That happened about 3 years ago. So, is this something I have to mention?

Thanks!

No you don't.

I received several parking tickets, one $300 speeding ticket and one $80 speeding ticket and I didnt report them because I paid them off.

I'm now waiting on my oath letter.

Based on what I've seen, you should put it down on paper, but don't have to submit any evidence or documents if these are non DUI violations or under $500 and/or points to DL. The verbiage on the instructions does not say you shouldn't report them on the N400.

Also, come prepared to the interview with proof that your tickets are paid and stuff like that. The IO may or may not ask for that. I read somewhere that the IO changed the answer to NO on that question when a VJer was interviewed. All depends on the day of the week, and the IO I guess... It's always good to be prepared.

We discolsed my husband's two traffic tickets on the N-400 form and he took all the documentation to his interview. The IO asked if he had been arrested and my husband said "no", and that was that. We just felt it was a better to be upfont at the beginning and see what they wanted from my husband during the interview.

I believe this was us. My husband checked 'YES' on the form as he had two speeding tickets (both under $150) because another VJer had been told to answer 'yes' by their IO. However, our IO said we should have checked 'NO' because when they see a 'YES' by this when reviewing the form, they are expecting something major(ex. DUI) to have happened. This was my husband's IO's explanation. My husband told the IO he had documentation to show he paid it and what the charges were, and the IO was not interested in seeing them.

I think there is some discretion being shown by some IOs. Regardless if you decide to check Yes or No, some want to see the documentation and some don't. We've seen a little bit of everything here. Fill the form out to the best of your ability and bring your documentation with you to your interview just in case. Be a scout and 'be prepared'. If you don't have to share it, lucky you. If you do, whew.. one less thing that can cause a possible delay in getting approval.

I had 3 tickets in the past 23 years. I didn't disclose them on the from. When the IO asked me the question about being arrested, cited etc, I told him about the tickets and that they were all less than $500 and no DUI. He said a lot of people were quoting that and that it was correct. I offered to show him documentation that fines were paid but he said he didn't need to see them.
