I am an American Woman wishing to marry a man from Lagos, Nigeria.

I have no idea of even how to get started. We are now making plans for my visit to Nigeria. While in Nigeria we wanted to marry. My stay will will only be for 2 weeks.

In the long run he wants to come to America to live with me.

What steps do we need to take. I have been skimming some forums and didn't realize how complicated this can get.

PLease help so we can make realistic plans.

thank you

Peggy

Lagos is the hardest place in the whole world to get a visa from. You have to understand proof of a valid relationship and red flags.

If you

met online

are white

are older ( especially of you can't have children )

are divorced

have children

You will have a harder time getting any visa. Getting married on your 1st 2 week trip will add to your headaches

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

Hello PeggySue,

For those of us who are slightly more experienced in this VJ, I would state the following:

1. Go visit him first, get to know him while there the two weeks. Meet up with his family, friends and neighbors. Take plenty of pictures with everyone and know who is who in the pictures. You will need this as evidence later believe me.

2. Keep records of your chats, emails, telephone calls and skype etc. on regular basis.

3. Keep your hotel receipts, ticket and boarding pass for later since you will need to submit those for evidence.

4. If you have RED FLAGS such indicated here by other members, then visit twice or so before marrying if YOU CAN.

5. READ as much as you can of previous posts by members who have been down this road prior to you and learn from them.

6. Be prepared for a long long journey which will require a lot of patience, money, endurance, patience, documents, traveling and filling and PATIENCE.

BE well informed and prepared before moving to the phase MARRIAGE and filling. The more you know, the more you will be prepared and fill the correct way and present a solid and strong petition.

These are few of the most important things to keep in mind as you start this journey. I wish you the best of luck and welcome to the Nigerian portal family.
