If you don't get it within a month you should go into the nearest office. We had checked the option as well... it never came.

When we went into the office it showed they actually did issue the card, just we never received it for some reason.

They did tell us they had isued within days of entry - so it should not take long at all.

Same here! We finally went to the nearest office about 5 weeks after I entered the US and they didn't seem to even have me in their system. I had my green card and passport with me and was able to apply for one on the spot. The SSN card arrived in the mail 4 days later.

We had huge issues with getting the actual card. Applied upon arrival and was issued a number, a card was sent but never received, went in to see what was wrong and was told they couldn't issue a new card since his visa had expired and we were waiting for our AOS/EAD/AP to go through. Finally, after the EAD came in, my husband went back in (for the 4th or 5th time) and they went through processing his card again (all this time we had his SSN, it just wasn't valid yet, which I found out when trying to file taxes). Then, just to add interest to the situation, he got called in to the office because someone had associated his SSN with someone who had been deported on Dec 10, which was 9 days after our wedding... thankfully everything got straightened out, but it was a huge ordeal.

Moral of the story: just be persistent and follow up--go in to an office.

There was a little delay for the actual greencard since they did not have record of us paying the $165 immigrant fee. My wife got her greencard 05/27/13. So you guys when you will be a good idea to stop at a local social security office and inquiry about? Thanks for the help.

Finally we all three together. We are happy :)

Does she have the documentation showing she was approved? This should be all she needs. We walked out of our interview with an Interview Results form and then received (a week later) the USCIS letter welcoming my husband to permanent residency, do you have those? Bring in her documentation and go in now. It's not going to hurt. They will at least explain what's going on to you.

A heads up for you guys. We went to the local social security office. USCIS did not process our request to get a ss number once in the us. So we applied right there. We should be getting the card within 2 weeks.

A heads up for you guys. We went to the local social security office. USCIS did not process our request to get a ss number once in the us. So we applied right there. We should be getting the card within 2 weeks.

Same thing happened here. Hubby entered the US on April 30, received GC on May 20, still no SS card. Called the local SS office and they told us to come in so hubby could apply. The guy said they don't issue them until you come in and apply and go through an interview (where and when were you born, what are your parents names---he had to write them, when did you enter the US, verify your current address). Hubby brought his passport, GC and letters he received with his GC, and the man used those to verify hubby's answers. He said hubby should receive his card in 2 to 4 weeks.
