Did I mess up my Medical Exam?

Hey guys,

I had my medical exam a couple days ago in London and I had to explain something stupid I did when I was a kid. (Attempted Suicide). Talking about it brought back a lot of emotions, and I was super tired cause I hadn't slept the night before (due to nervousness about the exam) and I couldn't help but cry when I had to explain why I did it. The doctor examining me really didn't say anything to comfort me, she just sort of sat there in silence until I stopped- I guess she had to remain professional but now I'm wondering, does she think I'm a total freak? Could I have screwed up my chances of being issued a visa?

(She told me the fact I attempted suicide shouldn't be a problem as it was over 3 years ago and I was a child, but she still needed confirmation from my GP that I'm mentally stable and unlikely to try something like that again) My doctor will definitely confirm that I'm fine, but I'm really freaking out that I made a fool of myself at the medical exam and she's going to judge me by it...

What do you think:

awww you poor thing (F)

Really try not to worry about it. After reading the medical reviews in the London forum I know the exact doctor u had she has been described as very emotionless and icy. Remember she does at least 20-30 of these a week i guarentee she jas heard a worse story than yours BY FAR and has had a lot worse reactions than yours. She probably considers your reaction as relatively unremarkable compared to a lot of patients she sees! These.doctors deal with patients with psychosis, severe mental disorders aswell as people that have been sectioned so a suicide attempt in your past is NOT a major deal ok?

Get ur doc to write u that letter and then u can put it all behind you and move on with your life :)

Hey, thanks, your words are really reassuring. I get so worked up about the tiniest things. Going through this isn't easy, it's never easy being away from the person you love. You're right, once I get the letter from my doctor I can put all that stuff to rest!

It's so close to my consular interview now, the pressure's really setting in- I just want to get it done and go marry my man! Haha!

What do you think:

Anybody that claims depression, especially attempted suicide, at Knightsbridge clinic is asked to have a GP write a report of any treatment, meds, or knowledge he has of you mental stability. If he says you are no longer a threat to yourself or others and he thinks you will not be in the future, then that's all you need. There have been other cases like you that got visas. See this post. http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/8321-london-medical-knightsbridge-doctors/page__view__findpost__p__6064408 Another is AngelBlu. Do an Advanced Search in the UK forum. Had the visa doctor thought you had a serious problem, they would have requested you have a private psych exam.

She didn't say anything to me about a psych exam so I guess that's a good thing. I asked her if there were any problems and if it would affect my case and she told me there weren't any problems and that it would have affected my case if I had attempted suicide in the past year but because I hadn't done that then it's fine as long as my GP confirms my mental health. I didn't even receive medication for it cause my doctor said its better to learn to deal with it naturally, and I haven't had any problems since then. I guess I'm just getting worked up over spilled milk. I don't have a history of depression or any mental illness- I just had a stress overload one day when I was a teenager and did a stupid thing.

I already gave my doctor the letter so its up to him when he acts on it. I did write that it was urgent but doctors surgeries are hopeless :P

Thanks for your help guys, I realise my case is nothing compared to some people's issues

You really need to speak with the doctor or get the nurse to for you. He needs to write the magic language "not a threat to herself or others". Make sure he knows that is a key phrase in US immigration, or so it seems at Knightsbridge. Sounds very positive to me with what she told you.

I plan on talking to my doctor as soon as I can, but my surgery is always "fully booked". I'm going to check again tomorrow to see if I can get an appointment to see him. I wish I could just communicate with him through email, this would be so much easier if I didn't have to go through receptionists that have no idea how important this is

The doctor commented on my acne too. It's not even that bad I thought it was a little insensitive of her to point it out, of course I see my own doctor about that problem.

When she was knocking in places on my body with a little hammer, was I meant to react? I've seen something like that being a reflex test and your leg is meant to kick up when they hit a certain point but I didn't react to any of that.. was I right to remain still?

I can't even remember parts of the examination because I was so tired

Oh + the Doctors Surgery got back to me today, Doc has written the letter out and wants me to read it through before he sends it off to make sure he's included everything. I'll check that the "magic words" are there and if they're not I'll let him know what he needs to write :)

I'm glad that they took my message seriously when I told them it was URGENT

Things are moving on B-)

Hello! Thank you so posting this and the people who answered. My husband has a very similar situation and is freaking out! I'm wondering how it turned out for you?  Did you have to answer any questions pertaining to this during the visa interview or just during your medical exam?
