hey fez,

that's great news!

when did they request that from you? did they ask for anything else like a new medical, new police certificate?

we had to send the passport along with some new documentation and my husband did it via Loomis.

there is a reference ID and I believe that was given to him at the Loomis office itself.

when you go on the website, it requires to fill out specific information and that is what he filled out and printed before going to the Loomis location.

i hope that helps?

Is there anyway to check timeline with Visa category for AP?

What are the reasons generally a file is put under AP? Any idea?

not that i've seen. the only way i know is to look and see who had interview but didn't have visa issued date. then see if they are in AP from their timeline.

AP is for many reasons - internal AP is when the consulate is usually waiting for additional documentation, doing local checks.

mandatory AP is when there is more thorough search needed, maybe issues at border in the past, domicile issues, etc perhaps a higher level of security check that needs to be done in Washington, DC, then it gets sent to them and you wait..and wait..

I was put in AP because they required translation of my birth certificate. Would you have any idea how long I can expect to wait for them to process and approve?

Dear fellow Canadians, good morning/afternoon! (depends on where you are)

After I spent significant amount of time on visa journey.com, I have mostly focused on the Administrative Processing (AP) reports particularly from US Consulate in Montreal, in other words, immigrant visas and K1 visas. I have shamelessly come with a few bold points here...and any inputs/comments are welcome.

1. Most applicants don't know why they are put on AP.

2. AP is loosely linked to the counties where the applicants are born (Many people speculated the MENA countries born applicants may be likely to put on AP).

3. AP can be as short as a few days. Most applicants are under AP for a few months (2-3 months). Some are on AP for 6 months or more.

4. Montreal U.S. Consulate only communicates through e-mail, it is efficient to my experiences.

5. You can check your AP status by calling 1 202 663 1225 then press 1, then press 0, then you will be answered very quickly by a specialist, they are professional, accurate, patient and helpful.
Alternative, you can check your status online
https://ceac.state.gov/CEACStatTracker/Status.aspx?eQs=o/iS8zDpeAKjMWCuebHqOw==

6. It may be frustrating. However, there is really not much you can do in order to expedite AP. It is to most extent a wait, while you are hoping it won't be too long.

7. Once NVC transferred the case to the Montreal U.S. Consulate, they don't handle the case anymore. All package will be mailed to Montreal.

8. USCIS doesn't handle I-130, I-140 anymore once they forward the case to NVC.

Smian,

We are over 4 months and not heard anything back as of yet.

Is your wife Canadian? Does she hold any other nationality?

My guess is they might be doing a security background check? Did they tell her they would be doing that?

Yes, she is a Canadian citizen by naturalization. They did not mention a security background check.

Well if she was born in a country that isn't friendly with the USA, good chance thats why she is in AP

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Especially if she is from Pakistan or India or another MENA country. Also if she works in biological sciences or pharmaceuticals sciences they may put her in AP to do background checks.

I got additional AP yesterday at the K1 Visa interview. Asked to submit my CV, list of publications, abstracts... I do work in Pharmaceutical sciences & have high educational background. So our case was very obvious to trigger AP. Now the wait at Montreal begins! sucks a big time.

Anybody in similar boat who had got AP b'se of educational background & pharmaceutical sciences work experience?

I can' help it. It is human nature to have a sigh of relief knowing we are not alone!

India isnt't part of MENA. Source

Pardon my lack of knowledge, but why does having high educational background consider red flag? Especially in Pharmaceutical science field?

It is not specific to pharmaceutical science field but if your area of research fall under their "Technology Alert List= TAL" /is in a field that is considered by USA as a potential threat to their country, you need this clearance. It is called "Mantis Check"

Check http://allabout221g.wordpress.com/types/

I have been given Administrative processing every time I applied for a US visa (non-immigrant) before becoming a Canadian.
