I-864 Sponsor with a different principal residence

Hello,

Me and my Wife are about to file form I-864 and are confused about the filing of the I-864A. My wife doesn't make enough money to sponsor me all by herself recording to the last W-2 form. So i asked my friend to do it and he agreed. My question is now, do both of them have to file I-864 or only my friend, or does the I-864A work without us having the same principal residence?

Both of them would fill out a form and submit supporting documentation. They do not have to live at the same residence.

I had a joint sponsor and we both filled out the I-864 and sent the supporting documents.

Ok thanks, so my wife files as the petitioner and my friend as the only joint sponsor?

If both the principal sponsor (petitioner) and joint sponsor share a household, the joint sponsor would fill out an I-864a. If they don't, they can still be your joint sponsor but would fill out an I-864 just like the petitioner.
