I'm desperate to speak to anyone who may have received a RN degree from an accredited school in the Philippines. To make a long story short. My fiance graduated from Southwestern University's (Cebu) RN program in October. She is holding her diploma as I type this. They are refusing to release her transcript of records; which she is required to have to apply to take the Philippine licensure exam. She wants to be a RN here in the states, Colorado specifically, and she wants to take the exam there as well? Any thoughts? Advice?

Thank you for any help,

Michael

she can ask for legal advice from a lawyer because schools cannot hold anybody's school records. BUT, why are they holding her's? There could be a reason.

She didn't want to pay for a review class after graduation. So they are saying she can't take the exam.

oh! that's what happened to my friend who studied in SWU too. They did not release her TOR. what she did was bring her parents to the school and speak to the head of the nursing department. The parents tried to speak with the head of the registrar but the guy told them to ask the head of the nursing department. My friend's father told the Nursing dept head that they will sue the school if they don't release the TOR within 2 weeks.

But prior to that, the parents contacted the CHED in cebu and ask for advice. The CHED told them to go to the school and speak to them about releasing the records, and if the school still hold it, they can come back to the CHED and the CHED will write a letter to the school... After the parents speak to the nursing dept, the TOR was released after 2 weeks.

---if the student already finished the course, paid all fees, she can ask the school to release her records anytime. Also, it is a policy of the CHED that no school are permitted to force their graduate to attend in a particular review center. The student must choose freely.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

having her diploma with her clearly means she completed the course. Tell her to use her strong personality when she speak to the head of nursing dept  . She has all the rights on her records.

Some nursing schools in the Philippines use the student's record to force her to review in the school's preferred review center because they get a discount from the review center.

They are not allowed to force you to take any review classes in the first place. I am an RN in PI and my CI or professors told us before taking the licensure exam that they are offering review classes but are not forcing it as they know that it is illegal to force a student. Know your rights and assert them.

Like what is previously said "be firm" but at the same time don't be rude and stoop to their level.
