Hi everyone. I have been reading these forums for the past few weeks and finally decided to post tonight hoping someone would be able to help me or just able to put my mind at ease. I had started the process of applying for my husband’s visa back in July 2011. It got approved in March of 2012 and was moved to NVC. My husband had his interview in Islamabad on October 3rd, 2012 and was given a green sheet saying he was put on AP but they kept his passport. His interview was with white gentlemen and with a Pakistani guy. My husband says there were two of them. The interviewer had told my husband at first that within three months he should receive his visa but now we have passed the 6 month mark and I am getting anxious. My husband did tell me that around December two men from the embassy did come and do a field interview on him. I forgot to mention that we do have an eight month old son and we have been married for almost 2 years coming this June. I had sent an expediting letter hoping to move his case process along since I had our son two months premature and my son was in the hospital for 3 months but they denied the expedition without any reason. I have emailed the embassy a few times and each time they send me back the same generic response of how the AP takes up to several weeks and they cannot give us an exact date of when it will be complete. I haven't seen my husband in one year, except on Skype and it is becoming harder every day without him especially now when that we have a child together. Does anyone know how long it takes the embassy to issue visas once they do a field investigation? Or how long after the 6 month mark does the embassy contact about the visa being approved or denied. I know everyone has different cases and circumstances, but if anyone has any ideas or clues it would be very helpful.

Impossible to say, it takes as long as it takes.

You can not expedite AP.

They did field investigation on him? that means they didn't believe your case at the interview and are investigating it more. Are there any red flags e.g

Has he been petitioned before by someone else in US?

or overstayed in US.

or any big age or religion difference between you and Him ?

Otherwise I don't know why it would take that long for them to issue visa to your husband

USCIS I-130 Petition for Spouse

September 2012: Filed from abroad to Chicago Lockbox

4 days later: NOA1, Routed to California Service Center

7 days later: Transferred because of new jurisdiction

5 days later: Case Status changed to: Under processing at USCIS office

NOA2 arrived 78 days after NOA1 :)

*I-130 Approval Notice hardcopy finally received in Pakistan, the only notice that arrived.

Hi,

I think you should be hearing something about your visa soon. You have been in AP for 6 months and they have already done the field investigation. Most people wait a year or more for that to happen. My husband and I have spent a total of 2 years in AP. I know you miss your husband but 6 months in AP is not a long time compared to other people.

Don't lose hope just because they did a field investigation it doesn't mean you will not get your visa. They are looking to see if the neighbors know he is married and what people in the community think of him.

Maybe you can plan a trip to see your husband sense you don't know how long your AP will last.

My husband has never petitioned for the US before. He did live in Dubai for 8-9 years. He says field investigations are common in Pakistan and usally done towards the end when they are about to issue the visa. My husband and I are actually cousins but we were engaged for two years prior to our marriage. He is only two years older then I am, so there really isn't any age difference. I went to stay with my husband for six months in 2012, hoping that might straighten our case, showing that it is a real marriage, and not just one for a visa.

My husband is getting really anxious now. He hasn't been able to work for almost 3 years now because of the case. He works in Dubai and now that he doesn't have his passport he cant leave the country and work. For the past year I've been supporting myself and our son, which is fine but there are days where a husband is really needed.

I would love to go see my husband, but right now financial it isn't really possible. Also its becoming hot in Pakistan, with no electricity and sometimes no water, my son would not do so well at his age.

He can always get his passport back.
