We have been waiting for almost 3 weeks for my wifes ss card. Yes you can apply for AOS,AP and the early work permit without a ssn.

That's really weird, if you went back the next day to ask for the number

If they don't have it, and the case is going through 'DHS verification', then you might want to read a bit, in the K-1 section, at

ssn http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/405546-ssn-howto/

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

Thanks, I have read it and almost every other message on this topic. Last week after waiting 3 weeks and no ss card we returned mto the local office for an update or to at least get her ssn number. We took the original reciept only to find out the original application was lost in cyber space between ssa and dept of homeland security and no where to be found. We had to return home to gather a few documents and then reapply . Needless to say I wasn't to happy and then they told me that it would take 6 weeks and there was no way possilbe to get the ssn prior to it being deleivered. I was talking to a supervisor and she was very friendly but this was my experience.

ps...sorry for hijacking the thread

OK - so you were absolutely sucked up in that stupid DHS Verification #######.

Go back again, ask for a SAFEFILE db lookup in the VISA name and/or A# in the visa.

You'll learn something with that lookup, I swear. Knowing the outcome of that lookup is also a major fork in the decision tree.

It smells like the person handling the intake there was clueless, as well.

If you had read my stuff prior to going, you'd know to withdraw the SS-5 and get to the closest CBP secondary inspection office to fix her POE entry in the SAFEFILE db system. You'd also have known to go back the next day and get the number or learn of other problems.

I'm not knocking you, but if you follow my stuff, exactly, you'd not be writing of your current malaise.
