Photographs for the interview

Hello everyone,

We are preparing for our interview in Abu Dhabi soon. I have a question about the required 5 photos (3 for Panel Physician and 2 for the interview). If I go to DOS website (http://travel.state..../visa_4354.html) under "Prepare for your visa interview abroad" and then onto:

5. Review the U.S. Embassy/Consulate General-specific Interview Guidelines. for Abu Dhabi. It says the photo required should be "Photographs must show the subject in a ¾ frontal portrait as shown. "

However, under "4.Obtain the required Photographs." the required photos are different and it says "Keep your head upright and face the camera. Do not tilt your head."! (Link: http://travel.state.gov/visa/visaphotoreq/photoexamples/photoexamples_5331.html)

In #5 syas don not wear earrings but in #4 it has examples of "correct" photos with the woman wearing earrings! I am confused! Which type of photographs we should take?

This is the instruction form I used for my husband's tourist visa. (It shows the standard requirements for a US passport/visa photo)

If you're unsure as to whether you should wear earrings or not, then just take them off for the photo. Perhaps they only mean to say stud earrings (not looped ones) are acceptable, but I don't even think that matters. It's mostly the headgear and clothing you're wearing that could be considered distracting.

I wore earrings for mine. Smaller hoops.

The photos need to be the same as U.S. passport photos. This is what they use for the visa going in your passport and the green card itself. The ones for the medical get attached to your files. In Canada, for my medical, one photo was attached to the form the doctor filled out, one on the blood work, one on the x-ray results.

You could of course call the consulate to be sure but my assumption (I know, not always safe) is that the photos required would all be the same for all the countries since the end result is something being generated by the U.S. and would be consistent.
