Hi,

I just filed for the N400 and have already received an appointment letter from USCIS. It is only however for the biometrics and nothing else. We have to make a 3 hour drive though to Portland OR just to do this. I am wondering why I am doing this again when they received my fingerprints etc when I removed the conditional status of my residency.

Also I am leery of receiving another letter stating a different date for an interview cause that would mean another drive out to Portland. I read on the USCIS page that not everyone is asked to do an interview. Is that true? I am applying citizenship due to marriage and submitted all the correct paperwork. No arrests, no traffic violations or issues that would compromise my application. Just wanted to know if there is a way to make the least amount of trip.

Thanks in advance to everyone who helps out! helpsmilie.gif

It is NOT true. Everyone must go for an interview for citizenship.

Sorry, but at each stage of the immigration process, K1 or I-130 stage, 2-yr GC stage, 10-yr GC stage, and at the citizenship stage everyone has to submit to biometrics just to prove that you are the same person. I have only heard that everyone has an interview at the citizenship stage if for nothing else for the testing done. My source, not VJ, tells me that you can expect to wait about 5 months, +/-, for the interview

Was kinda hoping that wouldn't be the case. Oh well. Where can I find out whether or not Portland can do interviews and oath ceremony together in one appointment?

Go here to find out about Portland Field Office

Naturalization Information:

The Portland Field Office conducts Judicial Ceremonies once per month and also offers same-day administrative naturalization ceremonies for those candidates who have met all requirements at the morning naturalization interview. The

Portland Field Office also hosts a number of special ceremonies every year.

You can go here to see if there is a closer ASC closer to where you live for the bio appointment.

Good luck,

Dave

I'm from Portland and have looked into things here a bit. You can do same day oath if your interview is in the morning and you're approved on the spot - unfortunately, you have no control over when your interview is scheduled. Biometrics is a requirement and there have been several people turned away trying to do a walk-in, so you'll want to just show up for your scheduled appointment. I would say just check out an audio book from the library and enjoy your drives - you may have 3 of them total (biometrics, interview, oath), but it'll be worth it once you're a citizen. I also see you're out in Prineville, so there's a few routes that are fairly equal in time/distance. Maybe take a different route each time to check out more of the state - it's a beautiful drive.
