My fiancé lives in Dominican Republic. I filed in October so I'm hoping for an April approval. I've heard different answers to this...but I'd like to know for sure. Will I have to return to DR to be with my fiancé when he gets his cita?

The petitioner is not required to be there (and in some cases not even allowed to attend), but in some high-risk countries it has been shown to be beneficial for them to be present. I'd check your consulate's reviews.

FOR THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC ITS NOT MANDATORY BUT IT IS SUGGESTED SINCE ITS SO HIGH FRAUD SOMETHING IF THE PARTNER DOESNT SHOW UP THEY GIVE THEM WHAT THEY CALL A CITA ABIERTA UNTIL THE SPOUSE CAN SHOW UP UNLESS THERES A REALLY REALLY GOOD REASON WHY THEY CANT GO

For a k1 visa in the DR I would highly suggest that you attend the interview. There are those that have been able to attend with out the petitioner but in the cases that I have seen it was for a spouse visa. Like MrsRodriguez stated there is the chance that they will reschedule the interview so that you can attend.

No, its not mandatory for the US citizen petitioner to be present at the K1 embassy interview. Majority of applicants get approved on their own, regardless of category.

I suggest read your local embassy reviews, good luck. :thumbs:
