how long in advance will we know about AOS interview?

Hi all,

I have been looking through the forum but I can't find the answers to my questions. I came on a K1 visa, got married at the end of December and mailed the AOS which was received by USCIS on January 4th. I have just seen online that they have approved and mailed the EAD. As for the I-485, it says this in my online status:

"On January 25, 2013, we received your response to our request for evidence. This case is being processed at our NATIONAL BENEFITS CENTER location. If you move while this case is pending, please use our Change of Address online tool to update your case with your new address or call our customer service center at 1-800-375-5283. We will notify you by mail when we make a decision or if we need something from you. You should expect to receive a written decision or written update within 60 days of the date we received your response unless fingerprint processing or an interview are standard parts of case processing and have not yet been completed, in which case you can use the processing time information on our website to estimate when this case will be done. If you move while this case is pending, please use our Change of Address online tool to update your case with your new address or call our customer service center at 1-800-375-5283."

My questions are:

1. When and how can we know if our case will stay at NBC or if it will be transferred to our local office (NYC)?

2. If it gets transferred to the local office, will we get a notice of this?

3. How long in advance will we receive the letter with the appointment for the interview?

This last question is the one that worries me more, my husband and I are going to be out of the US for 3 months during the summer, and we are scared of not finding out about the interview on time. We do not want to reschedule it, we are planning in flying back for a few days to attend the interview.

If anyone could share their experience it would be great!! thank you!

FWIW, I believe that we got close to a 30-day advance notice of our AOS interview at the local USCIS office.

YMMV.

Good luck.

Thanks for your response! Did you know before the interview that your case had been transferred to your local office or did you find that out once you received the letter with the interview's appointment?

If your case remains at NBC you will hear nothing .... It seems like those who get transferred to their local office and get an interview are notified about a month after their biometrics appointment. Based on what others have posted who are scheduled for an interview - you should get a letter in the next month or two if you are going to get an interview.

Just FYI, we sent in our AOS paperwork around Feb 1. Feb 28th my wife had biometrics, and about a week later we got our interview appointment, so we also had about 30 days.

We received no notice at all that it was moving into that phase, just a I-797C telling us of our interview date.

So about 30 days seems maybe average

GOOD LUCK!
