Hello,

I went to USCIS website, and entered in my Receipt Number and it says the I-130 for my Husband in India is approved.

Now, I am going through flowcharts to understand next steps

#1

From what I understand, it may take up to 2 weeks for National Visa Center to generate case number, but I should still call them at (603) 334-0700 and ask them for my NVC case number and someone will tell me over the phone?

#2

Once we have NVC case number, both my Husband (beneficiary) and myself (petitioner) will receive DS-3032 Choice of Agent form. But why are they sending it to two people, that I do not understand.

#3

I would like to be the agent for my Husband, does this mean he fills out ZERO forms, or are there forms he needs to fill out and submit himself.

#4

And what documents should I ask my Husband to gather RIGHT NOW, i.e. even before we have NVC case number? From what I understand, he should courier me the following:

Two passport-style photographs (2X2 inches) of Husband

Blank and signed form DS-230 Part I by the beneficiary

Photocopy of the Husband's passport biographic data page

Original/certified copy of Husband’s birth certificate

Original/certified copy of Husband’s and My’s marriage certificate

Original police certificate(s) of the Husband

Is there anything I am missing?

Edit: In the I-130 I included

Two passport-style photographs (2X2 inches) of Husband

Photocopy of the Husband's passport biographic data page

Original/certified copy of Husband’s and My’s marriage certificate

Will NVC ask for these three documents again?

okay. first of all, congrats on the approval.

now, as you said call every day untill you get your case number from NVC. it will take between 10 to 15 business day for them to generate a case number for you. once yoh have your case number do the following:

1- well, when the operator give you your case number please make sure to ask him/ her for your Invoice Identification number ( the case number along woth the IIN are two important pieces in the rest of the process. Also, please provide him/her with your email and your husband email- very important to do that be because all comunications after this will be via email which help you to save time.

2- now, once you do all that. do NOT wait fo the dS-3032 hard copy from NVC to send your "choice of agent" form. go ahead and log in into your husband email and send the ds-3032 as an email format ( you will find the template in this forum) .

3- once you send that email, it will take NVC to accept ds3032. waiting for it to be accepted, you will be billed for the AOS fee, please make sure to log into the payment portal and pay it.

4- once the status of the payment showed as PAID, please go ahead and send out AOS package.

5- waiting for IV bi to be invoiced ( it will happen once DS-3032 is accepted) , please make sure to gather all the necessary civil docs from your husband.Yes, The forms you mentioned in your post are fine and don't worry even if you send some of them with the I-130 petition form you still need to provide them at the NVC stage.

Good luck!

Right now, it's actually taking about a month for the NVC to generate a case number. It took me about three weeks from NVC's receipt of my I-130 from NBC to get mine. It's taking a little longer right now according to the posts in the March NVC filers thread.

As for the choice of agent form, and the duplicate communication, the beneficiary needs to fill out the form or send in a templated email from the beneficiary's email electing you as the choice of agent. In theory, this allows you to receive communication. Every email I get, my husband also gets because I added his email address to the case. They confirm this every time you call NVC once you have a case number. They send emails to both of you, this is standard. I prefer it, and I wouldn't worry as to why. It's the government, that's what they do.

You mentioned that your husband would send over a blank but signed DS230. Your husband should fill out the DS230 and sign it, not send it blank. It's a fillable PDF so the two of you can fill it out together, save it, he can print the completed document, sign it and send it.

I made sure my husband sent and filled out the documents - he's part of this process too.

Yes your husband should fill out and sign part 1, fill out but do not sign part 2, of the DS-230. Then he should send you the actual copy (he can keep a duplicate for himself to take to the interview just in case he needs it.)

When he is signing he is legally saying he filled it out correctly, but its easy to do as its all on the computer unless a word doesn't fit.
