Today has been a Monday from hell. We got to bed early last night only to wake up at 11:30 to a crying cat. Our poor Douzi has had breathing problems since we found him and last night he just couldn't get any air any more. He cried for about 15 minutes, made a couple of desperate attempts to breathe, then died. I have never felt so helpless in my life. By the time we got the emergency vet clinic on the line he was dead. From 12 to 12:30 my oldest son and Abdel dug a hole in the back yard and we laid our baby to rest.

I had just commented to Abdel while driving home from dinner last night that we needed to see if the vet had any kind of treatment for cats with Asthma, because that was what he sounded like he had. I was too late. the poor cat was only about 2 years old, but if you were in the room with him, you could hear him breathing. My oldest son called in sick today because he said he would be crying too much to work. He was the closest to Douzi.

I had my presentation to do this morning, so I couldn't call in and Abdel doesn't have any paid time off so he wanted to go in. We had our department covered dish Thanksgiving dinner today for lunch, so between that and no sleep I am really fighting to keep my eyelids open. Only about 1 more hour to go thank goodness, but tonight is grocery night so I can't just go home and sleep. Maybe I can at least get a little nap in before the store.

Sorry to hear this, Liz!! Hardest thing in the world to watch a beloved pet die.

when i had to make the decision to put my 16 year old Sheba (with failing kidneys) to sleep 4 years ago, I felt so bad. I stayed with her after the vet gave her the injection. :crying: THEN my 13 year old Remington died 2 months later of what appear to be a heart attack!!! I was there for that one too and it was so quick that no one could have done anything. :crying: I am crying now just thinking of it . . . and I even managed to acquire 4 kittens over a 6 month period after waiting about 6 months . . . excess of cats I know, but I love them all.

Liz, I'm so sorry to hear about Douzi - it's never easy to lose a pet. I'll be a basket case when any of mine die.

As for the toothache I had - it was an abcessed tooth, aparently the nerves had been dead for a long time and finally it started to bother me. No one knows what set it off, but in any case, I had an impromptu root canal today and will go back for the final treatment next Monday. I CANNOT FEEL MY FACE RIGHT NOW :help: which is probably good b/c it may be quite sore when I can feel it. Luckily, I got painpills for that part :innocent: . Anyhoo, what sux is that my nose is itching and I can't feel myself scratching it  ! I've gotta teach class soon.... I want to be lazy and cancel!!

Hope you feel better soon, noura!

BTW, I'm a little bit confused about how your nose can be itchy if you can't feel it...

Wow, seems like alot of us had really crappy days.

I wish I could vent but... I guess some things are better left unsaid. :)

I did manage to get a certified copy of my divorce papers.

When I called the State of California department for authorizations and apostille stuff last week, I was told the papers to certify had to be no older than 5 years old, so I had to go to the courthouse this morning get new certified copies of my divorce papers since they're 7 years old.

Wednesday morning I get to drive into San Francisco and fight commute traffic to get to the State of CA place where they'll certify that the divorce papers are legal. I would mail them in except they say it takes 2 or more weeks, and then if I'm not mistaken I need to send them off to Washington DC to get them even further certified. I swear these will be the most "certified" papers around. Anyways, it's alot of running around but I need to get them done before the trip so that there are no problems.

On another note, anyone who was divorced, did you get your divorce papers translated here in the states? When I looked on the Egyptian consulate's website for San Francisco, they said they would translate documents for $25.00 but when I called them, they said they don't do that anymore. When I called someplace to get a quote, they quoted me $500.00!!! It's only 5 pages, I really can't understand the price. So fiance has found a place in Egypt that will do it for $100.00 which is much cheaper, and he is still trying to find someplace else.

Anyways, does anyone know, does it matter if I get the translation done here or in Egypt??

Allah tries his chosen people through many hardships, but those who persevere through adversity, surrendering themselves before the will of Allah, shall be blessed with a superb reward.

-The Prophet Muhammad (SAW), as reported by Anas bin Malik

A time will come when the sky is torn apart; when the stars scatter, and the ocean drains away; and when the graves are tossed about, and laid open. At that time every man will be told what he has done, and what he has failed to do; and every woman will be told what she has done, and what she has failed to do.

-Qur'an, Al-Infitar, Surah 82:1-5
