If the US petitioner is moving prior to the visa being issued. What are the requirements and will this cause any set backs in our journey?

Thanks!

Bumping this to the top.

I am the US Petitioner. I have purchased a new home, and when I move in is up in the air. We are November filers and awaiting our NOA2. On all forms, we have put my current address as my residence and my Canadian fiancee has put my current address as the address that she will reside at when she moves here.

If I move prior to receiving the NOA2, I know I have to inform USCIS of my move, but I am wondering if this address change will have a negative effect on our visa journey?

What all would need to be done to make sure there are no glitches when I move?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Hi!

Same scenario here. November 30, 2012 filer but NOA1 is dated December 3, 2012. My fiance (petitioner) moved and he updated his address change online last January 26, 2013. He received a mail from USCIS on January 29, 2013 confirming that they have changed his address on record. But today, he received another letter from CSC that he has to submit form AR 11 to complete the process of address change.

We have no idea if this is a good thing or not. We're hoping that this would be an opportunity for our case to be "touched" again. Our online status is currently on Post Decision Activity.

I will update you how it goes so you can gauge whether you should change your address or not. :)

Hello there, we received the same thing from CSC. I called USCIS twice and received two different answers. When you filled out te AR-11, did you put it in your fiances name or yours? It asks for a previous address in the States and since my fiance (the beneficiary) has an address outside USA. So, it didnt seem right to fill it out for him. Then it says it is for the alien, so it isnt for me.

Is your situation different?

The USCIS person I spoke with said to only fill it out for my fiance if he is already living in the USA and not if his primary address is abroad.

Hi! :)

My fiance (petitioner) filled out the AR-11 form with his details. He is also not an alien since he is a USC. But he called USCIS thrice. He was told twice to just complete the form since it was being asked of him. We were apprehensive about filling out the form for him since we read in the USCIS website that a USC is not required to fill out form AR-11 when changing address instead, he should just update it online. Oh well, since it was asked of us and if it was an error on their part, we figured that if they saw that he was a USC and they asked him to submit form AR-11, they'd realize that they made a mistake on their end; OR if they really do need it, at least we complied with the requirement. :) My fiance attached the letter they sent us requiring him to fill out the form along with the completed AR-11 as a proof that they did in fact ask that from him. We also attached a cover letter explaining what happened. For now, we're awaiting for their response.

Back story is, my fiance (petitioner) changed his address in January 2013 and updated it online. On January 29 the USCIS sent him a notice via text and email but the notice for the address change wasn't mailed to him. So he did not receive the hard copy. Our case status online was updated. It was still in the "Initial Review" that time but it stated that his address was already changed on record. However on Feb 14, 2013, he received a notice via text and email that there was an update on our case. Upon checking it online, our case was in the "Post Decision Activity" and it stated that they sent us a notice. We should receive it within 30 days. It didn't say what the notice was about. Forward to Feb 25, my fiance received the said notice ALONG with the actual mail from the January 29 notice. What happened was, there was a mix-up with the postal service and the Jan29 notice was returned to USCIS.

So in your case, did you, the petitioner, also change you address recently? Or your fiance (beneficiary)? Because the reason why they asked us for that is because my petitioner changed his address.

I'm hoping that we'd both figure this out!

Thank you for replying :)

I (the USC) changed my address two weeks ago and received a letter confirming my address change and talking about the AR-11. However, we definitely did not receive anything about a post decision. :(. Still shows initial review.

I think we will do the same thing that you did, just to be safe...since I was given different answers today. Very confusing :(. Good luck to us!

I wonder what time the beneficiary would notify USCIS that the address where they intend to live at has changed? Any ideas?

I think you have to inform USCIS immediately so they can send you notices in the right address? Not sure though. I read somewhere here in VJ that you can choose to inform USCIS after receiving your NOA2 because USCIS is not good in dealing with address changes and this might cause a delay with your petition... Or so they say. Again, I'm not quite sure about it. :)

We chose to inform USCIS as soon as my fiance moved. :)

I did not read all the replies, but I asked this same question recently and I was informed that you can change your address quite simply online from the USCIS website. Blue link on the right, 4 Sub Categories down.

Yes, you can do it online. And that's what we did. :) But USCIS still requested us to send a completed form AR-11. :(

I'm glad I found this thread. My fiance (petitioner) will also move to his new house on March 14 and we're still waiting for our NOA2 which I feel will come around this month since we already reached 6 months under CSC.

I hope everything will be okay when he change his address online. As far as I know, AR-11 is for alien not for the US citizen. So I'm really confused why the USCIS requested RnL's fiance to submit one.

I'm worrying now. I hope it won't cause a delay. :(

Hi! :)

Can your fiance wait until you guys receive your NOA2 before moving? Because if he can, maybe it would be better that way since you're almost at your 6-month mark. :)

Some filers here changed their addresses online without any problems. Maybe we were just one of the unlucky few. :P

We're also confused about the AR-11 form. But we complied nonetheless. :)

Hi! So it took a month or so before your fiance received the letter informing him to submit AR-11????? :(

Hmmm... Not exactly. We received the Feb 14 notice on Feb 25 so that's just 11 days. :) It just so happened that the lost Jan 29 notice was sent along with the Feb 14 one. I don't know how that happened.

God bless on your visa journey. :)
