Still no notice in the mail after 11 days, so I called USCIS and got my oath date (Nov 15). Contrary to the experiences of some others who have posted on VJ, the officer wouldn't tell me the time or site. He said that if I still don't get the notice by 5 days prior to the ceremony, I can call back with a fax number to which they'll fax the letter. They just create themselves more work this way, but oh well. I'm pretty sure I know where the ceremony will be (it seems that people scheduled for Fridays in Manhattan get a court ceremony, for which info is available on the court's website), but I'll want to know for sure, because I've also heard of ceremonies at the USCIS office (where they would definitely NOT let me in without an appointment letter).

So not done yet, but one step closer. I'm keeping our Atlanta friends in my thoughts; I hope you finally hear back from USCIS soon...

Hi fellow April filers,

My oath letter never arrived and I was unable to get more than just the date on the phone, so I had to make another trip to USCIS (InfoPass) to get the details. It took over half an hour for the staff to find someone who'd be able to look it up; I don't get how this system works... They were also unable to reprint my letter, so they typed up a 5-line "letter" specifying the office address, the date and time of my oath. Since the oath is at the USCIS office and not at a courthouse, I hope this "appointment letter" is enough for security to let me into the building, haha.

As far as I know, I just need to bring my green card and dress presentably; is there any other info on oath letters that I should know?

Can't believe Atlanta still hasn't budged! Two months and counting... Damn. I was honestly sure I'd be the last person naturalized here, given other timelines from my specific part of NYC, and I'm actually saddened that I was wrong. It sucks that a few of us are still waiting while even August filers are taking their oaths...

I finally had my oath today and also submitted a passport application right away (standard processing). I'm mildly worried that USPS may never deliver my naturalization certificate back to me (they've lost a startling amount of our mail in the last couple of years), but as long as the passport makes it here, I should be fine. I don't believe I'll be petitioning for any relatives in the future, hence no need for the certificate as long as I have a US passport. I really wish my Mom were willing to move here, but that's sadly not the case :(

I really dislike dealing with overly convoluted bureaucratic processes, so today I feel like a major weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I don't get emotional over such events (and actually found the ceremony kind of cheesy), but the fact that this process is over and I can now focus my full energy on my work and family again makes me very content.

Thanks to everyone for their advice and support over the last 3.5 years. I'll keep an eye on the site until we've received final good news for all our April filers (the ones who are still here, that is :) )

I think that depends. First, your office would have to offer same-day oaths; do you know if LA does? If it's a busy, disorganized office like NYC, they may not offer that. But if they do, and you are approved right away and get the option, then you'd get your certificate on the same day. For passport, I believe you can get it on the same day only if you have proof of travel within the following 2 weeks (details at http://travel.state.gov/passport/processing/processing_1740.html).

hey guys, Finally!!! my interview its on dec 11th at the uscis office on downtown Los Angeles, i heard i could go to the federal building and get the passport the same day if everything goes alright, any idea anybody? thanks!

Any news from ATL? If still nothing, are you guys planning on reaching out to USCIS once 3 months have passed since the interview, or is there a longer time period that USCIS demands one waits? I'm just incredulous looking at your timelines; how much longer can it possibly take?!

I just got my passport yesterday. Applied on the day of ceremony (11/15), regular processing, and got the passport in 15 days. It was nice to have something processed this fast, after my 7.5 month N400 "adventure."

Passed my interview yesterday in downtown la, now I need the letter about the oath, is there anyway I can get it done sooner at the federal building for example? I heard so but it might just be an urban legend....

Lord: Congratulations! I doubt you'll be able to expedite a ceremony; don't think I've ever heard or read of that happening. I imagine they expedite these things for military folks about to be deployed, but I'm pretty sure all others are left to wait for USCIS to act. Look at our Atlanta friends in this thread, who can't even get USCIS to finalize their decisions 3 months after the interviews! Keep your chin up; one of these days you'll check your e-mail / phone only to see that an oath letter has been sent; hopefully soon :-)
