Fiancee has interview date

Hi All,

Well, my fiancee finally got the package 3 finished , but when she went to the embassy she had some confusion about a couple of the documents. According to her checklist she was supposed to submit the following documents:

1. DS-230

2. 2 copies of DS-156 for her, and 1 copy for her son

3. DS-156K

4. Checklist signed and dated.

When she went to window 4 to turn in the documents, the woman told her she needed another DS-230 for her son and she gave back the copy of DS-156. Also, she said my fiancee needed a certified copy of her custody report. I have a couple questions...

1. Does she need to fill out a seperate DS-230 for her son?

2. Does the custody document need to be certified? (she has a photocopy, but gave her original to her ex)

3. She has to pay $200 for the visa fee. Does this have to be in US dollars or native currency?

I ask these questions because I have called and emailed the embassy on several occasions and got conflicting information from them. Any help would be appreciated.

Does your fiance have full custody or joint custody of the child?

If she had joint custody with the father, then she can just get a notarized document (in Canada, it was called a "Statutory Declaration") signed by the father stating that he gives his permission for the mother to take the child to the U.S. to live. It does need to be notarized, however. That is, if she can't get the original custody order from her ex.

Thanks all. I don't understand why the checklist doesn't say this. Will the CO make the 10 yr old boy fill out the second half of the DS-230? He doesn't even understand what he is signing. Why do the instructions always seem to be wrong...
