blue cross blue shield got smart about 18 months ago and opened up insurance for anyone who wanted to purchase it. A lot of self-employed folk took advantage of this. I have great insurance for my employees, but I didn't carry myself on the plan. I got blue cross blue shield insurance for me, instead. Rates not so bad. I put a link up about it , if you need to compare pricing and plans.

Another cool thing, is that when I want to add my wife, pregnancy is included.

I dunno - I suggest whoever is reading this actually shop around, spend some time on the internets and find the thing that makes sense for you and yours.

A lot of times it depends on where you live though, up in alaska blue cross blue shield will not cover pregnancies if you buy their insurance on your own, in fact none of the insurance companies up here will cover a pregnancy when buying your own insurance...

On the PPO plan in California that I had, Blue Shield covered pregnancy. If you are self employed, you need to have health insurance for both you and your husband/wife. And baby when you have them. Otherwise, you are only one emergency away from bankruptcy! Yes, ER is required to accept you, but they will also send bill collectors after you for the full inflated cash price of anything you go in for.

Don't think of just pregnancy, what if someone broke an arm or had a heart attack? What's the plan? Bankruptcy?

Also if she doesn't work and you get injured, how do you pay the bills? That's what disability insurance is for. Or savings.

And you do know that kids are expensive, right?
