Can someone please tell me what to expect? We are driving of course. So we pull up to the booth thing...tell them we are activating my fiance's K1 visa, we go to secondary...then what?

Do they ask interview questions? Is it just like when we cross to visit plus paperwork?

Does he need to have any other paperwork on him besides the yellow envelope from Consulate and his passport?

I did it on Dec 1st. Make sure you don't go on Saturday, the bridge is 3/4 full. Took us a long time.

Just take your Passport and Yellow envelop. I gave them my XRay CD which they returned. Mine was IR-1, and my family was with me so didn't ask any questions related to my relationship as our kids were playing with us all the time were in there.

Since yours is K-1, I would say be prepared for typical interview questions that could be casually asked. Where you met, how often visited each other, when you're planning to get married, any arrangements/booking for wedding etc. The details you submitted to lockbox or NVC or MTL are already in the package. They will go through that quickly and will ask random questions on what is that doc etc.

Will verify the address GC and SSN will be mailed too and who lives at this address or if you have leased or owned it etc.

The best time is mid day during a weekday when there is high possiblity of a senior and experienced officer handling your Visa, or atleast is around incase junior gets stuck in the process. My officer seeked help three times and I was lucky to had both the officer and his senior to be very nice and welcoming. The process was smooth, I already received SSN within 12 days, which means that everything in the process was clean and forwarded as it should be. Terrific experience.

The visa is already "active". He is having it endorsed.

They charge $6 for the I-94 at a land border. When flying, the $6 is incorporated into the fees. It's a US POE so it's US $$.

Very rarely do they go through the car, and even rarer still do they ask for an inventory list. If that's all he's bringing then a list is not necessary.

I POEd just over a week ago and had to pay the $6 fee for the I-94. On a visit you don't normally have to as a Canadian, but upon POE they will ask you for it and you need the I-94 to adjust status as K1 visa holder.

I did the same thing. I didn't have to pay $6, nor was given an I-94. Canadians are not issued I-94. Its the stamp/endorsement that is required.

You are a CR-1. Her fiancé is a K-1 (non-immigrant visa) and has to pay it and requires it for adjustment of status.
