Green Card arrived and a job in a week! Fair play! Happy it's working out!

Microsoft....whats Microsoft? Do they make toilet tissue? Oh software! Oh ok...does it run on the latest Atari 64 like the ones just introduced in Ireland? :D

I am lucky enough to have been able to organis(z)e a job before my arrival in IT, otherwise I'd say I'd still be looking. But they say that getting a job from a job is easier so keep your eyes open on the IT side and I am sure you'll find something. But at least now you are working, you'll meet people, get paid, stay sane which is great.

February 13, 2006: I-130 filed (US Embassy, Dublin, Ireland).

April 18, 2006: Interview date received.

May 02, 2006: Interview (US Embassy, Dublin, Ireland). Visa approved.

June 14, 2006: Moved to Charlotte, NC.

July 20, 2006: 'Welcome to the United States' letter received.

July 21, 2006: Applied for SSN.

July 29, 2006: SSN received.

September 05, 2006: 2 year Permanent Resident card received.

April 09, 2008: Mailed I-751 to TSC.

April 15, 2008: Check cashed.

April 16, 2008: Case transferred to VSC.

I have to admit I’ve thought a few times about the “Microsoft” question. I can only assume that interviewer may have been well :whistle: … less than well versed on IT. I’m half expecting to get asked if we have electricity and running water back home when I start work.. I’m sure there are other funny questions to be asked! I’m sure it’ll be good craic! :lol:

That’s excellent that you got things sorted before you moved. I’ve been a whole year in this country and a whole year without a job! I’ve no doubt you’re right, finding a job from a job would be easier, although this isn’t a bad job at all. There is little or no commute, decent pay for what I’ll be doing, good benefits, paid holidays & sick time. :dance:

I have worked as an intern AND been a student in the US had a couple of funny conversations.

One business teacher at the US university said that the English economy was strong due to joining the Euro..... noone dared to speak up and correct her.

Another occasion at a party there were a few English and a couple of our friends were from Northern Ireland (We were all put in the same residence).

Well some sorority girl came up to one of the Irish girls and said that her English was really good considering it was her second language...and no she wasn't joking.

The other thing I have got is being mistaken for Australian - TWICE!!! (I have a general northern accent).

However at work the fact you are from a diferent country is usually a huge plus and just addes to the office banter.
