People,

I wanted to share this information. I sent my fiancee my documents for her interview and we had a problem and it got returned. Long story short, do not send any package to your loved ones house or its going to get returned and you are going to loose time and money.

I ended up sending the package again to a friends business since she wasn't working anymore. The package must be sent to a business or it will be returned.

Here is the letter DHL sent me :

In response to your inquiry concerning the above referenced shipment, DHL Worldwide Express has traced this shipment through our shipping cycle and has ascertained the following:

At this time, DHL Express is only able to send shipments to businesses for commercial use in Russia, as this is regulated by Russian customs concerning all express carriers. Your shipment will be returned to the sender as it was rejected by Russian customs as it was classified for personal use to an individual, and such shipments are prohibited.

DHL sincerely regrets any inconvenience that may have resulted with regards to this shipment. We value our relationship with our customers and hope you will allow us to continue providing services to your company.

Sincerely,

Michelle Jefferson

Sorry to hear about your luck, I've been using USPS and haven't had one issue yet. Packages like this go to the post office and sit there until the person gets the paper saying its there. Then they go pick it up.

The thread title is very misleading. Sending documents to Russia IS NOT BANNED. DHL is the one who NO LONGER mails to individuals, only businesses.

which is also strange... doesn't the U.S. embassy mail back passports through DHL? people don't live in commercial buildings...

We have never had such issue with USPS (after arriving Russia it's being transfered to Russian Post). Everything was great with sending packages both ways - only one of many letters and packages we sent to each other was not delivered, and it was just a little letter with 98c postmark. When we used expedited services (like "USPS Priority Mail" and "Russian Post EMS") everything was delivered with no issues. Most likely, it's a problem with DHL, which we never used because they're crazy expensive.

Those who are claiming that they sent packages, when was the last time y'all tried??/

I sent something on UPS in Feb and i sent DHL in the summer and didnt have a problem. I sent it in November and this is what DHL said to me.

I sent just documents in a DHL package. The exact words from the Russian DHL were pretty much the same American DHL said to me. Its a ban to personal mail in Russia. I received it in a nice formal DHL letter.

If its only DHL, then i dont understand why DHL says Russia in general has the ban.

Thanks for the heads up, though I did ship docs at end of October and a gift/book in November. No problems with USPS, hopefully it stays this way.
