My Fiancee had her vaccinations at St. Lukes yesterday and now she is not feeling well. I think this may be a bit common after some vaccines.

She had vaccines for Tetanus, Hep B, and MMR (measels mumps rubella).

Has anyone else felt ill after these vaccines, and if you did, how bad was it and how long did it last?

I have heard that after the vaccinations you do get a little sick/fever, I guess this is something normal. Kind of like the flu shot. you will get sick weeks after getting it done, but normally goes away!

I always feel sick after any vaccination. Whenever I get a flu shot especially. The symptoms only last like a day or so. Not long, usually. I think there might be a placebo effect in there, too. It might make you feel a little under the weather, but once you put your finger on why, you feel even worse because you think there was probably a cause.

Although, if she went to a place where there were a lot of people, it's also possible she picked something up. Though usually it takes a few days to notice symptoms from something you catch that's airborne.

I'm not an MD - and don't play one on TV . . . but I do know that vaccines 'fool' the immune system into believing that it is being 'attacked'. Unfortunately, this game of charades makes a person feel bad for a short period of time . . . even the flue shot will do it . . . go to a medical pro if you feel that not all is well . . . Visiting a MD in the RP is not expensive . . . probably not a bad thing to do - a post checkup checkup!

Hep B shot can make someone feel sick for a few days, someone posted about a placebo effect, that could be the case but I do agree that it has something to do with the activation of your immune system. Flu shots give me a runny nose and snotty feeling for a few days, sometimes an upset stomach.

Tetanus can make your arm sore and stiff for a few days. Some people have a more adverse reaction and this pain is a LOT worse. It too resolves in a few days though but it's more uncomfortable.

It's normal. I remember after you're given the vaccines at SLEC, they give you a piece of paper that shows a list of possible symptoms that you may feel because of the vaccines.

it's normal... Some of these are live attenuated vaccines a that induce an immune response to itself or to a carried vaccine component such as the anti-tetanus vaccine.
