I am filing for AOS and for Social Security card for my wife in the same week. I have a question related to the Social Security form.

What do we choose between two options?? a. Legal Alien Allowed to work or b. Legal Alian Not Allowed to work? My wife is here on K1 visa and we got married a month ago.

Thanks for your help.

You choose A, but when your card arrives the card would be marked authorized to work with only with DHS approval or something to that effect.

I agree. "Legal alien allowed to work" and her SS card will have the note "Valid for work with DHS authorization only". The "DHS authorization" will be her EAD card (if she applies for it, which I advise her to do because it is free and approved in 2-3 months), or her green card.

When she will be granted a green card, she will have to go back to a SS office and let them know about her change of immigration status. She will then receive a new SS card with just her name and SS#.

I'm going to apply for the SSN this week and I would have ticked "not allowed to work" as at the moment I am not allowed to work... but if you say that it's best to tick the other one I will do so too.

No, you should tick "allowed to work" because a K-1 is allowed to work (WITH the DHS authorization). It's tricky, I know.

Yes and when you get your green card, return for a name change on your ss card if you did so and they will remove the stamp. Then use your new GC and SSC to get or change your state id/dl.

In Arizona its hot hot hot.
