Hi,

I have just started preparing to apply K-1 Fiance(e) Visa for my boyfriend to come over. I am hoping to get help with a very basic question:

Form I-129F asks for an English name, which my boyfriend has never had one before. Can we decide an English name for him to use from now on? Are there any restrictions on the name?

Thank you for your help!

Why can't you write his name in English? Usually names written with other alphabets still have a version to be used with our alphabet.... ?

Thanks everyone. We are Chinese. His name is written as 王朋, which is not in alphabets.

Welcome to the forum.

How about Pinyin of Wang Peng?

What does it say on his Chinese passport?

Good luck on your visa journey.

Got it! I totally forgot about the passport. Pinyin is used on it. Thank you!

Should we use the same signature (also in Chinese) from his passport for the visa application forms?

The thing to remember is that these are US immigration forms. You should print everything in English (or pinyin for names or addresses in China) unless they ask for it written in the beneficiaries native alphabet.

You need to review his PASSPORT, as his pinyin name, written in non-chinese characters,

is what will follow his visa status forever.

as for 'choosing an English name' - no. If you get confused, ask him for his passport name in PinYin

or the Chinese Telegraphic Code Numbers taken from the Big Post Office in his city (can then translate those codes into PinYin)

Good Luck !

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
