Hi,

I have a question about the Medical Examination in Frankfurt for the K1 visa. During the Medical, I have to do a vision test and thats what my question is all about!

I wear Glasses but am in the need for new ones soon because my Vision has slightly decreased over the last 2 Years, now my concern is, is the vision test a "pass or fail" or is it just to determine your vision strenght?

I obviously cant get new Glasses within the next 14 Days, so does anyone know if its okay to just say that I will get new ones once im in the States or so? or am im overthinking it and ill just be fine if i cant read all the Letters or whatever it is on the visiontest?

Thank you very much!

At my medical, I had a vision exam, but they must not put a lot of emphasis on it as when I had to take my glasses off, I could barely read the second line. And even with my glasses on, I couldn't see much further down (I needed new glasses at that point as well). So, you're definitely over-thinking it!

hmmm ok! What i have read so far was, that they do it???

At my medical, they had a piece of cardboard on a wall, I read the first couple of lines with and without contact lenses in and they just took some notes that I wore contacts and that was it. It's not a fail or pass. It's more about your overall health and most importantly, that you're not a thread to yourself or anyone else.

No vision exam.

I disagree - there is a vision test in Germany. OP, I have just been to the medical in Frankfurt this week, and I was in a similar situation as you. I have very weak vision and wear strong glasses. I had however decided to get new glasses a couple of months ago already, so I had those with me at the medical. The physician asked me to stand a couple of meters from a chart with numbers on it and asked me to read off the numbers in the last line (smallest numbers). I did so with glasses on (that was fine), and was then asked to take off my glasses and re-do the whole procedure. I told him my vision is bad, and he asked me which line I am still able to read. I told him that I can barely read the first line. While he was writing down the results, I asked him if I can fail the medical exam for weak vision, and he told me no, and that it is just important to balance the weakness out with glasses or lenses.

Thank you very much. So i think I'll be fine. And yeah without glasses? I wont be able to read anything haha. So its ok if you just say "oh i cant read that last Line, i have to get new glasses"

Do you mind telling me how much you paid for the Medical?

Yeah, you should be fine! I would still suggest getting new glasses when you have the possibility. I paid 140 Euros for the medical. Bring along a passport style photo (either German or U.S. size is fine), your passport, your FRN case #, and your vaccination records. Poeple are really nice and professional at the physician's office, so no worries! :)

Ok, the office also just told me that they dont do the vaccination there and i should have that done at my local physican!? Since the Vaccination requirements vary from every site i found, does anyone have a reliable source for whats really needed?

You can find it at the official CDC site: http://www.cdc.gov/immigrantrefugeehealth/pdf/2009-ti-vaccination.pdf (page 12 of the PDF with the table).

Yes, you have to get your vaccinations up to date at your local physician beforehand. If you don't, I have heard that the Frankfurt physician will tell you to go back to your local physician and get the missing shots, and that they won't send the medical results to the Frankfurt consulate until you have faxed them the confirmation from your local doctor about you getting the missing shots. Luckily, I had all vaccinations needed. I only got myself a titertest for varicella.

Here is the sheet I used: http://germany.usembassy.gov/visa/files/iv_immunizations.pdf

Yeah, you just need the age appropriate ones for the medical.
