I hope you know the Old Testament says the EXACT same thing about blasphemy as you have referenced in your signature quote - punishable by death.

Reasoning will not get you anywhere.

Most christians take the old testament only when it is necessary to justify their hatred for someone else but tend to dismiss it when it pertains to themselves. They share a lot in common with those who use the Q'ran to justify their hatred for others. Islam does not hold a monopoly on nutjobs...

I hope you know the Old Testament says the EXACT same thing about blasphemy as you have referenced in your signature quote - punishable by death.

"And he that blasphemeth the name of the LORD, he shall surely be put to death, and all the congregation shall certainly stone him: as well the stranger, as he that is born in the land, when he blasphemeth the name of the Lord, shall be put to death." Leviticus 24:16.

Just because something is written in religious text doesn't mean all the faithful follow it.

There are over 1 billion Muslims in the world. Only a few thousand participated in the "protests" and of the thousands only a handful committed violent acts. NOT. STATISTICALLY. SIGNIFICANT. Certainly not indicative of the whole population. It's about as statistically significant as the Jewish settlers in the West Bank who have burned mosques or beaten Palestinians to within inches of life or the Christians who have killed abortion doctors or dragged homosexuals to their deaths by tying them to the back of trucks. Extremism exists in every religion.

All you seem interested is picking a fight with us. If this was a different venue I'd be happy to oblige because you are so ill-informed. But this is a forum for immigration. This particular forum is for people who have loved ones in MENA countries and we will not apologize for that or feel any shame. Go live your life with your loved one rather than wasting so much time trolling these forums.

i realize you are trying to help, but your comments are still off the mark. to begin with, most muslims aren't cherry picking the quran and would not believe it's ever ok to do so.

rather, they place scripture in it's correct context via tafsir or exegesis. ayat of the quran don't exist in their own separate little bubbles, completely detached from the rest of text as a whole, to be taken at face value with zero context to the text surrounding a particular ayah, or ayat revealed in other parts of the text. such is the case with this particular passage, of which detailed exegesis has existed for centuries, that unfortunately for peter pan and others like peter pan, do not have any resemblance to the simplistic and violent takeaway they want people to have, reading just this passage, out of its context.

No matter how anyone feels about Islam, it's here to stay so we just need to find a way to accept it and move on.

People from other religions think the same thing about YOUR religion. It's a 2 way street.

The human race is full of nutjobs . :help:

As for the Qur'an and its interpretation, you simply cannot approach it like people approach the Bible. Its been said once in this post already:

1) the verses/ayats do not and cannot exist independently.

2) The meanings are somewhat lost and often significantly lost with translation.

3) A historical and in depth explanation is required to understand many aspects of the verses. The Qur'an holds battle time and political instruction particular to a specific event in the history of the early Muslims.

We were actually just discussing this in an Islamic forum. A couple of reading materials were suggested including this:
