New UK passport in the U.S.

Hello, apologies if this is in the wrong place.

Quick question, I am travelling back to the U.K. for christmas this year, and heading back to the U.S. in January. The thing is, my U.K. passport expires in march 2013.

Am I ok to travel on this passport, or should I try and renew it prior to december?

British citizens do not have to have their passport valid for six months beyond the end of their projected stay.

You can enter on that passport, but you will have a maximum stay duration of the expiry date on the passport; so if you entered in January and wanted to remain until April, for example, that would not be allowed and they would only give you until the date of the passport's expiry in March as your period of authorised stay in the US.

So it isn't an issue going back to the UK, I assume coming back into the US with just a couple of months left on my passport is ok due to my green card?

As long as it's still valid on the day you enter, it won't matter to the US.

You should certainly get it renewed at your earliest convenience, though.

Yes I'm planning to, but due to time and funds, I was hoping to put it off until after my trip back to the UK.
