Mistake on divorce decree- Help!

Hello again,

my fiancè got his divorce decree abroad. He has just noticed that the translated decree has a mistake: they wrote his daughter's birthday year uncorrectly.

Getting a new translation and apostille re-done would take months.

1) Is it possible to attach a note to the translation saying that the birthday is uncorrect and that he has attached a copy of the original decree (hihlighting the birthday date) and of his daughter's birth certificate and passport to prove that that on the translated decree is just a mistake?

2) Or could the translation of the original decree be done in the US?

You could get the divorce papers translated by foxtranslations.com as a pdf It's very quick and cheap.

I translated all my fiances paperwork myself. USCIS allows that as long as you add the following to the bottom of each translated page:

I, TRANSLATOR'S NAME, certify that I am fluent (conversant) in the English and THE LANGUAGE OF THE DOCUMENT languages, and that the above/attached document is an accurate translation of the document attached entitled NAME OF DOCUMENT.

Signature Date

TRANSLATOR'S NAME & ADDRESS

The only time I need it translated by a company if for our marriage license. If you are sending the copy to USCIS just do it yourself.

I have yet to submit, but I want to make sure we don't get rejected just because of a date mistake on his divorce decree.

Another problem also is that we were provided with copies of the divorce, not the originals. My fiancè is worried that when we might not be able to get married (after we receive the visa) because we don't have original copies to show

What about your fiance? He can do the translation himself. I'm just looking for the economical route but if he doesn't feel comfortable translating then yes you can translate it here in the USA. What I would do is find out if the state you are going to get married has any restrictions. Where I live I need to have my fiance's divorce certificate translated but it can only be translated by a certain company or they will not accept it. That isn't common but you should double check you don't want to pay for two separate translations if that happens to be your case. Also if your paying for a translation see if they accept divorce decrees for your marriage license if not you might want to just translate his divorce certificate so you don't have to pay for two translations.

Well I am from New York and here you both have to submit 2 forms of id USA drivers license or passport and birth certificate. We also have to submit his divorce certificate they do not accept his divorce decree. We have to present all original documents with notarized translations. Oh and we both have to be present or they will not give us the certificate.
