Hi,

My wife went to the SSA today and she applied for a SSN. She was given a reciept that stated she can ONLY work w/ HOMELAND SECURITY AUTHORIZATION.

We did not file for a EAD...does that mean she can not work when she recieves her SSN?

I thought K1 visa ppl can work w/ SSN even w/o EAD.....is that the case?

What did your reciepts from SSA say......

Hi, I believe once you get your AOS approved, you can go back to the SS office and get that removed, letting them know of your new status as legal permanent resident. Don't worry.

Good luck!

Your card, when you receive it, will be marked with the words "VALID FOR WORK ONLY WITH INS AUTHORIZATION" indicating to an employer that you must also have an unexpired EAD to be eligible to work.

She can work with this card until her I-94 in her passport will expire. If she will have her GC by then, she can continue working and just go back to the Social Security Office to get a new card without the restriction.

If she hasn't received the GC yet when her I-94 expires, she won't be allowed to work until she will have an EAD (which you didn't apply for) OR a GC.

But for now she can work.... if her I-94 is still valid :star:

As long as she can find an employer that will accept the I-94 as work authorization ... Unless she received the temporary EAD stamp at her POE it will be hard to find any employer willing to hire her ...

Point of Entry = is the place where she entered the US ...

And only a few POEs will issued a temporary EAD stamp so you have to see if she received one in her passport ... If she doesn't have one you will find it hard to prove to a potential employer that she is authorized to work ...
