Fact check? I watched the entire set of speeches last night.. To check any facts they would have had to make claims.. They didn't.. It was all touchy-feel, getting good video shots of diversity in the crowd, and crossing off a list base people to please... ZERO substance.

Both parties have dissapointed... not that it matters to the party loyal in these forums..

I call failure as I see it. I'm not in the business of never-ending excuses.

So you think that a mess that's been decades in the making should be fixed in three years? And if it isn't, then that's failure? Don't bother voting, then. You will always vote for failures no matter who you vote for.

Of course it was. It would have been stupid to have Michelle Obama talk about policy.

Personally, though it's only been one night, I think the DNC did a better job of appealing to middle America who might not know who they're voting for yet. But who knows, that might be my bias showing.

Decades in the making because for decades no-one has tried to fix it. Neither has Obama, despite running on the promise to do just that.

He doesn't even get an "E" for effort. Seems like he didn't even try. It would have been counter productive to sending America into a thousand years of darkness starting in December of 2012.

I'm just in business. Did good under Clinton. Overall did better under Bush. The suck under Obama. That is my bottom line.

I'm employed. Did well under Clinton. Did well under Bush. Doing very well under Obama. You see, when it comes to my career, I built it. Unlike Republicans, I'm not going to run around whining and blaming a President for my career success or lack thereof. I believe in taking personal responsibility for my economic well being. Guess that's an odd concept but I'm kind of old school that way.

All fair points.. but she was not the only speaker and even the PBS commentators were commenting on the lack of anything of substance being said.. Whole thing felt a bit patronizing to me.. Tonight I'll play the drinking game while watching and key off the word "mom". I expect to make it through about 3 speeches.

Obama is a politician who, like any other politician, makes promises. Some of them are kept, some of them are broken and on some of them he compromised. I don't get this whole idea of Obama suddenly being held to this higher standard. Happy to have reasonable discussions about the President but starting with the premise that in order to deserve being re-elected he must have delivered on all of his promises is not having a reasonable discussion. By that standard, no President - past, present and future - would ever be eligible to be re-elected.

I think, other than the VP and President speaking, it'll be more of the same. They're the only two who should really be discussing policy and strategy and how they'll do what they want to do. The rest are there to make them look good.

Honestly I don't see Obama losing this time around without something crazy happening so you are probably correct the smart choice is to play it safe.. Sure makes the speeches boring to watch though.

Hopefully someone will talk to a piece of furniture and spice things up a bit.

It is boring, but his base is already going to vote for him. Same with Romney's base. It's all about appealing to the undecideds now.

I heard that the DNC will invite a Hollywood celebrity to deliver a speech to an empty tax form 1040....  <img src="http://static-forums.visajourney.com/public/style_emoticons/default/rofl.gif" alt="" class="bbc_emoticon"> <img src="http://static-forums.visajourney.com/public/style_emoticons/default/rofl.gif" alt="" class="bbc_emoticon"> <img src="http://static-forums.visajourney.com/public/style_emoticons/default/rofl.gif" alt="" class="bbc_emoticon">
