Hey everyone! I would like someone to help me answer the following question. It would be greatly appreciated :). I am a U.S Citizen and my husband is an Indian citizen. I sent in my I-130 on August 20, 2012 which was received to the Chicago Lockbox on August 22, 2012. I got the e-notification which said they have accepted my I-130 and is at the Vermont Service Center. A few days later, I checked my case status which stated that on August 28, 2012, my I-130 has been transferred to another office because they now have jurisdiction over the case. What does that mean?

If someone can tell me in detail how all this works, please let me know.

It might be referring to your case being transferred to a local office, which means there will likely be a local interview because they doubt your case due to red flags.

Case are being transferred to whoever are assigned to your case. Not so sure why though because in my case I remember they also changed or transferred us from and to other states Just like what happened to you but wasn't relly sure why I just can't remember it's been 3 yrs I guess.

Don't worry they will send you more notice of action to let you know what to do next.

No need to worry.

Thank you Saylin and Clowy for answering my question. Saylin, what do you mean they might have doubts due to red flags? Can you perhaps give me an example? Thanks!

Red flags can be various things: large age difference, short courtship, only met once or twice before marriage, etc etc. Some things can be normal in some countries but be red flags in others.

Hi Sangita,

Was your case transferred to Lee's Summit, Missouri? Mine was, and so were a few other petitions that were filed at the same time we filed ours. We all got NOA1s that said Vermont. Because the petitions were just received, and because there are several of us, I don't think it's because of some red flag in your background check. A senior member of VJ said it was a routing error. My suspicion as that due to case overload at Vermont, the center in Missouri has started helping out with processing of I-130s. But I don't know for sure, I am not an expert or a senior member of VJ!

best wishes and good luck!

Red flags no don't worry it's just that I've said earlier that USCIS have their own reason why they did that, plus they will tell you to send more evidence if they are doubting you and your application.

So for now just wait for any notice from them. Okay

Goodluck!!!

Hello everyone! I would like to know more information regarding my I-130. I am a U.S Citizen and my husband is an Indian Citizen. I am currently living with him in India until we get approved for the visa so we can go back together to the US. I filed and sent the I-130 to the Chicago Lockbox on August 20, 2012. It reached there on August 22, 2012. A few days later, I received the NOA1 letter stating it was sent to the Vermont Service Center. A few days after that, I checked my case status which stated that on August 28, 2012, the case has been transferred to NBC (National Benefits Center) because they now have jurisdiction over the case. They mailed the letter stating that which I received yesterday. Can anyone tell me exactly or in detail what that means? It would greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hi Treva! My case was sent to NBC (National Benefits Center). I believe it is Lee's Summit, MO. Is this a good thing? Will this speed up the process and perhaps give us an interview sooner? Anyone who has an idea, please do respond. Thank you.

To know more accurate details, you would have to read the letter that you received.

Case can be sent to NBC if they need to do interview in-person or sometimes they transfer case to NBC for Fast Processing. But for exact details, you should look into your letter.

Hope it helps

Hello to All,

We also sent our I-130 to Chicago lockbox on August 21, they received it on August 23. Received NOA1 hardcopy (receipt) on August 29 mailed from Vermont Service Center. On September 1, I received a NOA mailed from Vermont stating they had transferred the file to USCIS-NBC in Lee's Summit, MO because the record indicates that this office has jurisdiction over our case. It seems this is the case for many who filed around this date. Does anyone know the reason for this transfer? I live in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Missouri is further away than Vermont so I doubt it is for personal interviewing, then again I haven't a clue.
