USCIS- 5 MONTHS VSC

Ok, so i'm to have 5 months on September 3rd, which is literally right about the corner. I called the USCIS center to see if i could get more info and he said once I reach the 5 months next week I can put in a service request. Ok, so i'm curious what does a service request really do? Does it in anyway help expidite your case? Can some vj'ers let me know their experiences with the service requests?

It really doesn't seem to do anything, they will tell you to wait and call back is all. That is really all you can do, wait. Hope it passes quickly

Just wait..... I guess that's what we've been doing and just continue to do so I really wanted him home for the holidays now i feel like that might not even happen. The waiting game sure as heck sucks.

I'm hitting 5 months in a couple of weeks as well. I don't expect anything other than waiting and waiting some more. However, I will probably be bugging them in the meantime to pass the time. Who knows when they will speed up? It could happen any day now, but it looks like they just might start getting the March filers rolling in just in time for September. A service request certainly can't hurt, but there are more problems going on than just a backlog. The complete inconsistency with their own statements regarding processing times and what kind of responses people get when they inquire outside of the processing time. If you're lucky, they might actually put a service request through, or they could tell you to wait and continue to mislead with the website and/or stated "average". The reality is we can't do much about it, but that reasoning alone doesn't take away the edge unfortunately.

I wish I had more sympathy... However, I do have some information that may be somewhat useful. VSC won't let you put in a service request until you are at least at the 6 month mark and even then they will keep pushing it back. When you call you need to ask them what date they are working on, and if you are over six months AND the date they are working on has surpassed your date THEN you can put in a service request. For me, they didn't hit that point till about 6 and a half months after I filed. Still, I am feeling pretty certain a service request does pretty much squat. I have been working with my congressman who today has sent out the second inquiry on my behalf and the first one was about a month ago. The only thing you can really do is wait. They pretty much tell you whatever to get you off the phone. The whole system is super flawed :/

Awww that's a total bummer it looks like a few March filers have gone in now.... Hopefully that's a good sign.

I guess open a service request does not help at all!! Then we aree just waiting and waiting... it's hard but, that the way it is.

July 27 was five months for us and I called today and was told to wait another 21 days to call back because they're working on Feb 6 petitions

If they say the same thing after 6 months, you might want to speak to a higher up. The representatives are just getting you off their back. Next, they will say the "working on Feb. 6" #######. It's nonsense, and they should be made aware of this.

That's just more lies of course. 'Igor's List' shows 5 March filers approved in the last 2 days. One May filer was approved at VSC yesterday. Of course, this is more than likely an outlier, but the fact that they blatantly lie to people is disgusting.

I approve one petition at 3 months and one petition at 9 months. My average is 6 months
