Can you change the interview date??

My Fiancee and I are waiting for our K1 visa to be processed. Our interview will be in Sydney. We are planning a 2 month trip to Europe before our visa is due to be assessed. I am just a little worried about the prospect of our interview date conflicting with our trip.

My question is do we schedule the interview date with the consulate or do they just give us a date and if they do are we able to change the date if it does conflict with our plans? (I am assuming people have had to do this before for work or personal reasons)

Thank you so much for your help everyone.

David

This a country-specific question. While you're waiting for answers from Australian members, just one question: when do you plan your trip?

The consulate issues you a date, but you can e-mail them and ask to change the date.

Again, you would need to ask to members who dealt with the Sydney consulate to have your answers, or you may have answers that apply in other countries, not yours...

You'll need to do your medical in aussie and it has to be close dated to your interview

OK thanks. Do you know how long in advance these must be booked?

Also, does anyone know if you get the visa in your hand the day of the interview? if you are approved of course.

Hey Mate,

From what I've read, some doctors practises wont allow you to book the physical until you have the interview date. Once done,it is valid for a year.

I've heard here that people are verbally told ove their approval, however, are also advised that they will receive the paperwork within a possible two week period. You may be lucky to have it once you leave the consulate.

Excellent, thanks guys that gives me a really good idea of what to expect. Does anyone know if you must be present in Australia for the police check etc...

If I am overseas holidaying at the time I am asked for the police check can I get it done or do I have to be in Aus??

Thanks again everyone.

As far as I know you can get your police cert. while overseas(my mum got a NZ one while in aussie, she ordered it so you may be able to for aussie certs.). I did read somewhere on the forums though someone mentioning that the police cert. for aussie was longer to get because fingerprints are required(?), again im not quite sure but hopefully someone will answer you soon :P Search the forums and you might be able to find something. :)
