Does anyone know how long it takes at port of entry? My husband is trying to schedule a flight from Washington D.C. Is 3 hours layover enough time? He arrives at 3:00p and his connecting flight departs at 6:00p. Please let me know if you have had experience with this airport.

Look at local POE reviews, tight time wise if you are in LA.

No I am in Tampa but he is catching qatar to Washington and then switching to Delta to get to Tampa. So I am trying to find a flight from Washington that will give him enough time to get through immigration and then book another flight to tampa.

Well, 3 PM is usually a very peak time for arriving flights, assume it will take about an hour to get to a CBP agent, then maybe 15-30 min in the "office", getting stamped and stuff. Add the time to go through customs.

Since he will be changing carrier and needs to handle baggage and maybe even change terminals, plus the recomendation that all passangers for local flights be there at least one hour before (to allow time for security and stuff) sounds kinda close.

I think it is a very tight window, find out what the penalty would be to leave in the next flight (to FL) if for any reason the first flight to Wash is delayed, or any of the earlier takes a little longer.

Best be prepared. Good Luck.

edit: Also keep in mind, if it is this week, consider the impacts to flight schedules cause by ISSAC (storm).

Let me know how it goes for you I am in the Tampa area too so I will need to figure this out soon I hope.. I was kind of hoping I could bring him in through Atlanta but I guess that is not an option. I was thinking then if he missed the flight I could probalby drive up there to get him sooner and for less than another ticket... Any way I am happy for you glad your hubby will be with you soon.

It's an option but it may be a little more expensive. This is what I planned also. I'm flying Delta and was going to try to book my husbands flight home with me since I will be staying about two weeks after the interview. I'm praying point of entry is Atlanta. I'm planning to give Delta a call and speak with a live agent about the matter and see the best way to go about the entire ordeal. I don't want to get his ticket until we have his visa in his passport, in hand.

That is the stupidest airport in America hands down! I had like 3 hour lay over coming back from Switzerland and I barely made it to my flight, I was sweating from my speed walking/running. I had like 10 minutes to spare before they were boarding my flight! If I fly internationally I will avoid that airport like the plague! I was also coming back after holidays do I don't know if that was a factor. I dont konw if you knew continental did direct flights to houston.

Which DC airport? Reagan (National); Dulles; or BWI?

Yea I had planned bringing my husband back with me too but the ticket prices were so high we decided to save that money and have him come next month when the rates are the lowest. Delta is good but Qatar is the cheapest. Its just that Qatar wont bring him any closer than Washington. Then he have to catch Delta to Tampa but its only $90. for that ticket . So we are happy. He will be in Washington on Sept. 11th so i have to purchase the ticket from Washington to Tampa now.

I'm was thinking the same thing. my husband will be coming from newyork but he doesn't have enough time to get on the next flight because he will have to go thru customs. I didn't know qatar goes to washington dc, I will drive to dc instead of nyc
