Understanding the process is the key to a DYI petition. This consists of multiple stages.

1 - filing petition and supporting documents

2 - approved; sent to NVC, they turn it into a K1 visa pplication and sends it to the embassy

3 - Embassy stage; medical done, gathering documents for interview - visa issued

4 - entering the US, getting married within 90 days

5 - submitting AOS(you have to adjust your status by sending a new package to USCIS)

6 - interview at local USCIS office

Regarding evidence/proof of relationship, you need proof of having met in person for the first stage. Proof of having met IS NOT chatlogs. It is passport stamps and other primary evidence that shows you were in the same country or area within 2 years of when you submit your petition. Submitting pictures of the 2 of you is fine but it only backs up your passport stamps(or other evidence like that). You'll need this primary proof at the first stage.

Proof of ongoing relationship is needed when you go to your interview at the embassy. This can be more pictures of you visiting each other, chatlogs, emails, b-day cards etc. Ongoing relationship is to demonstrate that you've been "maintaining" your relationship since you filed the petition.

The last 3 steps is AFTER the visa is issued and AFTER you enter the US. Please read the guide(and perhaps the K1 flowchart as well). I'm only trying to sum it up. Best of all, download the instructions for the i-129f and read those instructions. The K1 guide on Visa journey is mostly based on thst, and Visa Journey members' experience.

I'd advise you to to some reading that's specific to your country, it'll help you out later on, and some embassies can be harder to go through than others. I know you're enxious to just get it mailed but please take a week to read and understand how it works so you'll send all the forms needed, and all the supporting documents.

K1 process, October 2010 > POE, July 2011

I-129F approved in 180 days from NOA1 date. (195 days from filing to NOA2 in hand)

Interview took 224 days from I-129F NOA1 date. (241 days from filing petition until visa in hand)

From filing I-129F petition until POE: 285 days

thank you guys .... looks like im getting more overwhelmed now with reading the guide ... Thinking i might need a lawyer =/. I used to be married , was seperated from him for about 4 years and finally got a divorced in June .Im feeling this might be an issue =/ ohhh boy !

If you follow the K1 guide step-by-step and include everything they ask for, you'll be fine. As long as you can submit the divorce decree with your application, there shouldn't be any problems.

no need for a lawyer. we can help you. everyone will agree...it looks overwhelming but take a deep breath and just pull apart each form and read them. It not that bad. The divorce is not an issue. I'm ging to send you a PM too! Hang in there.

Yes it's really overwhelming but true, you don't need a lawyer to help you go through with the whole process. Just keep asking and they're very helpful here! When in doubt, ask, ask, ask! Cheers to all who helped me :)

Can you please either post something relevant or start your own snacking topic? This is the 5th post I've seen from you which absolutely won't help OP and has nothing but that smiley in. If you think the topic is pathetic, reportit, offer advise or simply don't post.

We all have to start somewhere and it's completely legit to ask questions.

Agreed +1

It's only overwhelming when it's new. Yes, there is a lot of information to cover, but do it one step at a time. The Guides break it down nice for you. Putting that petition together can take some time and feel like a daunting task. Take your time with it and carefully follow instructions. There is much to go through, but just making it past that first step knowing USCIS has received and not rejected your petition is a wonderful feeling. We all can't stand to be away from our loved ones, but this journey is a great test of patience. A lawyer cannot speed this up for you or make it any easier unless you have some questionable issues that could conflict with the interest of obtaining a visa. After you study the guides some, ask specific questions, and many folks here will be glad to help you. Hold on tight!
