So my fiance and I have almost finished putting together our K-1 visa petition package together. However there is a slight problem. We need evidence of an ongoing relationship and we do have emails, but few phone records (because I didn't keep most of them :( ). We do have some evidence of chatting online together, but we don't have much evidence of that either. How important is the evidence of an ongoing relationship? Does anyone have any experience with this? Should I include a letter explaining the lack of evidence?

Thanks in advance

Hi Kevin...

Are you able to go back and print phone records? I have Sprint and they keep all of our records so I just went back and printed them out...

Evidence of an ongoing relationship is very important... well at least that’s what my lawyer said to us... I would advise you to see a lawyer, even if you have to pay a bit to get some advice from him/her...

I was lucky i had a friend go through this so i kind of know what to do in the beginning, but on average who saves that kind of stuff? Not me... I’m the like you i never would of thought to save this stuff... Also try to get letters from family or close friends who approve of what you’re doing as evidence too... I got a letter from a good friend, my parents, my pastor ec...

Good luck... we are in the second stage of this process and it’s going to be a stressful time but totally worth it in the end!!!!!!!!!

Are you physically with your fiance now? I certainly hope you have the evidence to prove that you have met your fiance within the past 2 years. Without that evidence, you have a big problem.

How important is the evidence of an ongoing relationship?

The answer to this depends entirely on the consulate you are going through. Which one?

AOS for my husband
8/17/10: INTERVIEW DAY (day 123) APPROVED!!

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package
2/06/13: APPROVED!

Thanks for the answers guys, I definitely have more than enough evidence that we've met in the past two years.

I live in Utah, U.S.A. and she lives in Shenzhen, China, which consulates and embassies are strict?

We have numerous emails throughout our relationship, and some phone records. Because I used a phone card to contact her my phone provider doesn't have the records, but the company that issues the phone cards has the records. However I don't have all the phone cards so I don't have all the phone records, I'd say I have about 30-40% of the phone records, and all the emails. Is this ok?

Okay, yes, Guanzhou is a tough consulate. I would ask the China forum for China-specific details.

IMHO it is the crux of the matter.

You should be abel to recreate phone records from your provider in the USA.

Scan copies of plane tickets, boarding passes and hotel receipts. If you have letters (snail mails) scan them too. Pictures (make sure you put the names of the people in the picture, place and date). Emails, you can send all of them or you can just pick a few.

The evidence you have so far should be good enough to get your petition approved. Your primary evidence for the petition is anything that proves you met within the last 2 years. You said you have plenty of that. Include that with your petition and some of the photos, phone records, and emails that you currently do have. You don’t necessarily need a ton of evidence at this point. You will, however, need more evidence at the time of your interview. So from now up until the time of the interview, just make sure you do a better job of holding onto anything you think will help you prove your relationship.

Good luck!!
